ND and the BCS

In talking with 2 ND haters this weekend (my brother and brother inlaw) I had to address two arguments.

1. ND didn't deserve a BCS bid and
2. ND gets preferential treatment by the BCS

I had to point out that:

1. even though ND didn't really have any quality wins, they still deserved the BCS bid as much as the only other eligible team (West VA). What they didn't realize was that 9 autobids were already given out. 6 to the conference champs, 1 to Boise state, and 1 each to Michigan and LSU. Aubruna nd Wisconsin didn't qualify as both play in conferences with 2 teams already in BCS bowls. Rutgers and VT didn't qualify because they didn't finish in the final top 14. That left #11 ND and #13 West Va for the remaining slot. I think ND deserved it every bit as much as WVU. It would be hard to make a case otherwise as WVU played such a pansy schedule.

2. For ND to get an autobid, they must finish in the top 8. BCS conference champs have no ranking stipulation. They can finish with 4 losses and unranked and still get an autobid. Non BCS conference champs must simply finish in the final top BCS 12. So how is it any easier for ND? If ND doesn't get an autobid, we qualify for an at large under the same rules as everyone else. And seeing that we play a tougher schedule than 90% of the teams out there, it is actually harder for us to finish the season ranked high enough.

I just can't follow the ND haters logic.

That's the point...there is no logic. It's sheer blind hate. They will never get it. ND gets the coverage they get, including a special deal with the BCS, because they are the most interesting, known, loved and hated college football program by a long shot. There is no other team anywhere near them. ND holds 85% of brand recognition in the college football world. There was na actual study done. Why is this? Because the haters watch MORE than the fans do. That is the horrfiying irony for ND haters.

I think to start with

1. don't argue with a domer-hater
2. don't argue with relatives that are domer-haters.

3. the upmost imporatant one...don't waste your time with people who don't even know bcs rules to start with.Chances are they don't know college football and when questioned about notre dame the only thing they know about this season is
1.michigan beat them
2.usc beat them
3.quinn didn't win the heisman
4.they played navy, army, and air force
and that's about it

Yes...that was the extent of their knowledge. To make matters worse, one of the two is a Penn State fan. He had the nerve to bust on us playing the service academies after they played Akron, Youngstown State and Temple OOC. He also feels that ND "must join a conference" though I don't remember hin complaining when PSU was independant.

Sometimes the haters do nmake a good point here and there, but rarely are they ever open to reason/logic.

It is similar to the poll done in real life but stated eloquently in the movie "Private Parts" with Howard Stern. If you dont know what i am talking about it was simply a poll for Howard listners. The pro-howards listened for an average 1 hour a day because they wanted to hear what he would say next.
The average howard hater listened for 2+ hours a day because....they wanted to hear what he would say next.

arguing with idiots is what drove me from espn boards to here. Why argue with people who will never weigh everything equally? Its like trying to persuade your girlfriends ex boyfriend that youre a good guy

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
