my 2009 depth chart (projected)

We are going to be stacked on offense next year and if we play our cards right we will be dangerous. The QB position will have competition, but Clausen will win the job. The TE position will also be a competitive position, but we will be a 2-TE offense at times next year. If you thought we were dangerous this year in the WR- watch out for next year. I see Evans being the Floyd of this year, Walker will show his talent, and Tate & Floyd (along w/ Evans) will be our playmakers. As far as for the running game, Aldridge will sit or will be used the least, Hughes will get used as a third down (and should get converted into a fullback), and Allen will split time w/ Wood as I think Wood comes in and adds more explosiveness to the offense.

i think it's important that turk returns, however...he may not be the best out there, but he has some experience and this line needs all the help and depth it can get...besides, if he still sucks - you don't have to play him

You must not have watched much ND football lately (neutereddomer obviously has the sleeping excuse). Yes that is good logic but too good for Charlie. He sticks with his players no matter how awful they may be. Turk, Schwapp, Lambert, Ryan, and the list goes on. If Turk is back he will start and no one will challenge him because thats how Charlie has shown he will do things so far.

Geez, am I the only one who thinks Allen is special? I would like to see Hughes and Allen in backfield (Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside style...), but CW's offense doesn't seem to care about RBs. Seems to be an "afterthought" position.

I also think Allen is special but he needs to be in open space to be special that's why I'd like to see him line up at the slot receiver spot. He would be a serious threat if Jimmy can get the ball to him with a 4-5 yard cushion from the DB.

interesting to move aldridge to fb, i do wonder how well he blocks. but that could mean something with both of he and either rb in the backfield. it may be a very good move for a kid like him too. it is necessary to get playing time in college if you have ANY aspirations past there. to be thickheaded and only want to play rb in this stable would be foolish for him.

can anyone say ricky watters when talking about allen?

ryan did get demoted this year, thank god. so i know charlie can do it. i do wonder if him taking out his knee had anything to do with it?

i didnt see ryan on anyones chart, thats a good thing i really dont see him being productive.

there is surely a ton of talent here, and there is going to be some depth too! hopefully the cs can do something with it.

Alleycat.....bite your tongue!!!! Did you see Ricky Waters play? Dude was an animal. He's the type of guy Notre Dame can't bring in anymore (Holtz somehow got him in, and then they stopped letting him get these types of guys in....wonder why Holtzy left???), but what a player. Him and Tony Brooks together? Man oh man, those were the days. Watters was so freaking good that when Tim Brown graduated, Watters moved to flanker and led the team in receptions! Then when he went back to running back he and Tony Rice were unstoppable. In the pros, Ricky ran for 10,000 yards!

So Alleycat, can't say Allen and Watters in the same sentence yet. Not even close really. Allen is athletic, but he hasn't proven he can make people miss yet. 3 great plays vs Hawaii doesn't change that...yet. As someone else said, maybe putting him in the slot gives him more opportunites to make plays, but with all the weapons we have at receiver, do we really need to conver a RB to that spot? I do like how he gets open as a checkdown receiver for JC. Just waiting for him to do more when he gets that ball.

One thing is for sure: Allen needs to have a great off-season, and come out and WIN that RB spot. He'll have plenty of comp (can't wait to see my SoCal neighbor Ceirre Wood!), so he's got to raise his game. Southern California will be well represented on the offensive side of the ball - Clausen, Crist, Evans, Woods...I can't wait to see Cierre on the field for the Irish. Watching some of his tape on YouTube is amazing. I never made it up to Ventura County to see any of this games, but watch a ton online. I think he makes an impact as a Frosh. Can't wait to see how he does against top tier recruits on Saturday in the Army game. I will call my shot right now - Cierre goes for 800+ yards as a frosh next season!!!

With McNeil, Blanton, (Gray?) and Walls playing corner next year, that kind of pushes Sergio Brown out of the mix. I think this kid is a playmaker. I would love to see him at Safety with Kyle McCartney. I know, Charlie has said that Harrison Smith will move back there to replace Bruton. However, I would like to see Harrison remain as an outside linebacker. I know he needs to gain a little more muscle, but we need as many playmakers on defense as possible. With H.Smith, B. Smith, and Fleming/Filer at LB’s we present a lot of speed. If we could get some consistent play from the D Line, this defense has a chance to be really special. Thoughts?

He needs a few more TDs and a few eighty yard runs to be compared to Watters. A couple receptions for TDs and even a spectacular punt return thrown in. Man I have not thought about Watters in a long time.

He busted a 60 or 50 something yarder up the gut against the Vols too.
