Most Over-Rated 2006

We've all heard enough times how over-rated ND has been. No need to rehash that. We all pretty much know where people stand on the issue. So, let's turn it around and name our 5 most over-rated teams of the year EXCLUDING Notre Dame(although I know certain people won't be physically able to do it).

5.Tennessee-Remember when EVERYONE had them as their #1 one loss team?
4.Texas-3 losses and not even playing for the Big 12 Championship despite BEATING OU
3. Iowa-It's seems we've all forgotten how highly they were thought of when OSU came to town.
2. Clemson- 4 losses including South Carolina
1.West Virginia- All they had to do was beat UL and they were in the NC. Uh-oh. No one told South Florida...or Louisville. Hope someone told Rutgers.

See, I think Herbersteit's the only one who had Miami ridiculously overrated, so they probly wouldn't be on my list.

Iowa has to be the most overrated to me. Although, they're overrated every year so that's nothing new. Texas is probly right there right behind them.

Personally I think Florida's rather overrated right now. Meyer can sqwak all he wants, I think if they played OSU they'd lose by 3 scores.

Damn, those are good too. How in the hell is ND the only team catching crap for being over-rated?

Doesn't that just freakin piss you off that a bunch of other teams who are not even in the top 25, but were ranked highly in pre-season, but nobody is blasting them. Well, all that means is that ND is THE most relevant team in all of college football. Haters can say what they want, but you don't see the haters coming out against the Miami's of the world.

Actually didn't VTech finish strong and end up nearish to where they were preseason? Usually they finish badly, but not this year, unless I missed a loss they had recently.

Iowa- Mark May's B10 Champ Prediction (Can't believe ESPN hasn't fired this clown yet)

FSU-Everyone raved about how the defense would be better than last year's but they seemed to forget how bad their offense was under Jeff Bowden

WVU-Offense is way too one dimensional (Watch the Louisville after Slaton's injury), too many people feel in love with their speed and high school offense couldn't help them beat South Fla. @ home

From preseason... us, WVU and Texas... it pain's me greatly to say this.... We didn't play great all year and preseason #1-3 was way too high. And WVU losing at home to SF is inexcusable. Really I cannot believe I'm the first person to say texas, this team was #2 in the preseason rankings!!!!!!!

Who is overated now.. Wisconsin, Arkansas, Boise St...

Yes, but Texas also had games they almost certainly should have lost to Texas Tech and Nebraska, neither of whom is particularly good, and those were with McCoy healthy. Add those two performances to their losses to KSU (in which their defense, having nothing to do with McCoy, got absolutely embarrassed), A&M, and their non-competitive home loss to OSU, and they were a big disappointment. Vince Young covered for a lot of problems, apparently.

I've been saying for a few years that Texas' OC is bad. They run a very predictable and easy to read offense. It works when the talent is clearly superior and when they have a Vince Young at QB. But this year, they struggled with it.

Texas lost to Ohio State, then twice AFTER Colt McCoy got hurt.

A&M, McCoy played the whole game practically??? and who did they beat in that time frame when he was healthy(see below) further breakdown they wer down 28-0 to TT and got sooooo lucky at nebraska.... nice team but definitely overated from preseason jiggs..

Sept. 16, 2006 at Rice (ESPN2) W 52-7 2-1 -17
Sept. 23, 2006 Iowa State W 37-14 3-1 (1-0) -14
Sept. 30, 2006 Sam Houston St. W 56-3 4-1

Oct. 21, 2006 at Nebraska W 22-20 7-1 (4-0) -5
Oct. 28, 2006 at Texas Tech W 35-31 8-1 (5-0) -10
Nov. 11, 2006 at Kansas State L 45-42 9-2 (6-1) -16

Looks like they beat everyone they played besides Ohio State before McCoy got injured.

He had a neck injury, which makes it rather difficult from people like us to get out of bed much less for a QB to throw. That wasn't the reason they allowed 45 points, however.

No way was he fully healthy for the A&M game. You could see he was hurt.

Let's remember that McCoy is a true freshman here, in case we are going through this ourselves next year.

That being said, Texas downfall came with their pass defense for the most part. If I remember right they said Texas had the #1 run Defense and #111 (or something crazy like that) pass defense. But yes, Texas was very much overrated.

I would say that these teams were overrated
1) Tenn
2) Cal
3) Oregon
4) Texas
5) WV
6) Wisconsin is STILL overrated
7) Auburn
8) Florida State
9) Miami
10) Our beloved ND

Actually, Colt's a red-shirt freshman. Javin Snead was the true freshman that battled him for the starting job.

I agree with all of them except Cal. I don't think Cal was overrated at all. The lost to USC by a much closer margin than we did, and were in the game until the 4th quarter. The loss to Tenn was really bad, but I think Cal would win a rematch. The problem for Cal back in September was that the trip to Tenn was the first time they had played in that type of environment. Cal just does not schedule those type of games, although it looks like they will from now on.

I've always been curious about the "overrating" teams.

Who are we referring to that has "rated" them? The AP? The coaches? Athlon? Sporting News?

Remember everyone jumping on the 4-1 Huskies bandwagon close to the mid-way point?
Well they went 1-6 there after.
In the words of Seinfeld........."that's a shame."

The entire SEC (except for maybe Arkasnas) especially Auburn

the entire world of college football pundits- I know they aren't a team but they all suck and jump on bandwagons way to fast. How many different one loss teams where the best in the country, and of those, how many still have one loss?

Wisconsin

The top three teams in the Big East got a little to much love as well

Ah yes, I remember this. I knew they would crumble though. Next year will be worse for them.

1. Cal - before the start of the season alot of people liked them for a BCS game.
2. Tenn
3. UGA
4. Miami
5. FSU

Texas did beat Oklahoma and Nebraska who I think are two good teams. I love how they scheduled the two puff games before them though, but ND is the one that gets crucified by the media for the weak schedule.
