My choice: Darius Walker.

I was really impressed with his interview on IrishIllustrated, I thought I was watching a grown man who is ready to retire from the NFL.

There's a funny part in the interview where he finishes answering a question, you hear the interviewer ask another while they're still focused on Walker, and they do some kind of transition where they shift to the left and there, again is Walker giving the answer. It's like there was a clone sitting right next to him. You'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about.

Whose your pick?

I would say John Carlson. Not the most exciting but most articulate.

Trevor Laws...his interview was impressive.

Brady always seems to be quite humble and down to earth and says the right things all the time. maybe Articulate isnt the best word, but I think you guys know what I mean.

Yeah, and that's one of my favorite things about college football. Nobody is good enough to brag and practically everyone knows it. Talent-wise, Brady will be one of the few exceptions in '06-'07, but, as you said, he's humble.

You probably didn't mean it like that (or maybe you did, who knows) but crediting a black person for being "articulate" is one of the most common, almost unconscious racist moves these days. The posters after you steered it better but it's a bad start to start a thread crediting a black player for being "articulate." Why wouldn't a young man attending Notre Dame be articulate?

The perfect irony is that your comment is the very first hint in this thread, the very first , of anything, ANYTHING, racial.
Your post says more about the way your mind works than any other comment you could possibly post.
Congratulation.

That's why racism will never end! People yell Racism even when your complimenting someone, black or white. He simply meant he didn't say "uhhh" or "ummm" the whole time. He's a good speaker...period. No need to bring race into it.

So now the word "articulate" should be taken out of the dictionary and never uttered again because it might offend some simpleton that somehow relates the word to a certain race?
I've heard the "articulate black man" commercial too, so because of that commercial we can't use the word "articulate" when speaking of a person of color? I think the commercial backfired.

i think it is the green guy on the sidelines. OH! is that racist agianst green people? give me a break if you look at all of the post D Walker is actually the only back person brought up so it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. I understand what you are saying though but I feel that this is not the case. He was simply asking who we think is the most articulate player and gave his opinion. Get off your "The world is out to get me because I am black" and get on with the question don't read too much into it, it only becomes an issue if you make it one. I also agree that it is Darius! does that make me racist too. not everyone is trying to suppress the black man

You are correct surrounding unconcious racism...however, in this post I don't think it applies.

However, not everyone is articulate...just because they attend Notre Dame.

I must say though that when you hear interviews with MANY other schools and you listen to ND players, you do see there is a difference.

For a man of many words and a gift at articulating his thoughts and feelings...I would have to say Brandon Hoyte tops my list in the last few years. A poet, a scholar, a good man... He is gifted in so many ways.

I don't have any on me. I have the video tapes of him during his last two seasons. (I record all the games on VHS...even the bad ones)

They had some great half-time spots on him...

I remember the Brandon Hoyte puff-piece from last season. I wish there was someplace where I could find more of his works of poetry. Very creative and -- dare I say it -- articulate.

And before you go flyin' off the handle, Ralphie, when I say someone's articulate, I mean just that: they're articulate. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and I refuse to apologize for complimenting the intelligence of someone whose skin tone happens to be a few shades darker than mine, as if that's supposed to matter one whit anyway.

(Sad that I have to put a disclaimer on a compliment, but that's the world that people like Ralphie seem hell-bent on creating.)

Something tells me he once wrote a letter to George Lucas, chastising him for using such an obviously racist and abhorently politically incorrect term as "The Dark Side".

The scariest part is this reply, by Mr. Transcendentalism himself, to Svo's solicitation for contributors.

"I'd be happy to write the occasional editorial about the football team/season."
by, ralphwaldoemerson

Don't we already have enough threads decrying some of those insufferable hacks who write about Notre Dame and college football.

"Ralphing" would be my first bodily instinct.
Here's hoping he comes around someday.

I'm not sure what world you guys are living in (actually yes I am - a conservative Catholic reactionary one) that you wouldn't know that a white person (especially some idiot posting on a messageboard, likely with no academic credentials himself) calling a black person (who goes to NOTRE DAME, and is much better educated than the white person) articulate is classic racism. It's kind of, stereotypical racism. It's become proverbial. I've seen this kid's posts - who is he to pat a black player on the head for being articulate?

And it's not a compliment to call a football player, especially a black one, articulate. It's a compliment to call an orator articulate, because it relates to his work. Calling a football player articulate is a built-in insult, and reads this way to intelligent people: "He's articulate (for a football player/for a black guy)." Use your brain a little.

There are plenty of athletes, even at Notre Dame, who aren't articulate. Heck, there are plenty of students, even at Notre Dame, who aren't articulate.

Let's not confuse articulate with intelligent. There are many students I knew there, of all races and backgrounds, who were wicked smart but not the most verbally articulate--lots of "you know," "like," and plenty of f-bombs. There were also consistent C students who were very good public speakers.

Honestly, I believe Darius Walker is articulate as a human being. I believe Brady Quinn is articulate as a human being. I have no idea how intelligent either is--as measured by GPA, major, IQ, etc. As public speakers, they are comfortable in front of the camera, answer questions thoughtfully, and have a good command of the English language. There are teammates from the same or other racial backgrounds who aren't. That's the difference. It's not by race, but by ability to speak well.

i broke it down to an even more understandable notion it boils down to comfort if your comfortable in front of the camera it shows and if your not comfortable perhaps shy maybe havent been in front of the camera much that shows to this guy is really burning me up with the race bullshit what has he done must have been something for it pop out of his mouth for no reason as he stated he is a white man he has no right to say what offends a black man if he where a black man and something i said offended him i would apologize in a heart beat get down off your high horse ralph
