Yankees looked old last night.

Agreed. I just had a conversation with a buddy discussing options, including calling up some kids to infuse some "youthful exuberance" into the clubhouse. Jesus Montero new DH?

if they're not going to use montero why don't they give him to somebody who will? Sox will take em, though Salty hit the ball hard last night.

Think hell would freeze over before Yanks and Sox make a major trade.

They need ALOT of youth and athleticism, Swisher, Gardner, Cano and Teixiera are a good starting point but they need more help. Perhaps its time for them to go back to the mid 90s philosophy using the farm system to grow their own players.

The thing is, we have about the same amount of home grown players in our 25 man roster than we did then. Everyone likes to think that the 90s were soley built on the farm system, but the ratio seems pretty similar to me off the top of my head. Back then we relied on quite a few outsiders - Paul O'Neil, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Chuck Knoblauch, Daryl Strawberry, Tim Raines, Cecil Fielder, David Justice, Wade Boggs, David Cone, David Wells, Mike Stanton, Jeff Nelson, Dwight Gooden, Kenny Rogers, Jimmy Key, and John Wetteland. That's the majority of the contributors. The homegrown players were Jeter, Williams, Posada, Spencer, Pettitte, Rivera, and Mendoza.

Right now, our home grown players are Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Cano, Gardner, Hughes, Chamberlain, and Robertson. This would have included Austin Jackson, but we traded him for the better Granderson, Chien Ming Wang, but he got hurt and is still not pitching in the majors, and even Alphonso Soriano, who we turned into Arod.

While I agree that we need to emphasize the farm system, it is all about getting the right balance of youth and veterans, in the right roles.
