Kinda odd he would committ before his visit this weekend and OSU is still claiming he is favoring them.

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering if this is a good source. It is interesting that a name is given. I would be encouraged, but still want to wait and hear it from him directly.

Irisheyes.com is saying ND offered to McCarthy on WED. and that he'll visit ND this weekend, but there was no mention that he committed.

McCarthy Joins ND Recruiting Class
By Travis Donnelly

It was almost inevitable and now it’s official. Ohio’s Kyle McCarthy (6-1, 190) has joined the Notre Dame recruiting class after his weekend visit to South Bend. McCarthy played quarterback for Cardinal Mooney High School, but will line up on defense for the Irish.

Irish Today spoke with McCarthy after his decision.

“Yes, I did commit to Notre Dame,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy chose Notre Dame over Ohio State. What pushed the Irish over the top?

“Just being on campus and meeting with the players and coaches, seeing the great tradition,” McCarthy said. “I knew it was the place for me. So, I said why procrastinate, I should just make the decision.”

How did he tell the Irish coaches of his commitment?

“At dinner on Saturday night, I just pulled up a chair to the coaches and I said it would be an honor to come to Notre Dame and play football,” McCarthy said. “They just said congratulations and there was a round of applause.”

McCarthy was expecting a visit from Coach Tressel of Ohio State after his visit. Now, that won’t happen.

“I called Coach Tressel out of respect for him and I let him know it wouldn’t be necessary for him to come,” McCarthy said. “I was really thankful to all the coaches that recruited me from Ohio State, Navy, Northwestern, all of them were great and I have nothing but respect for them all.”

What was Coach Tressel’s reaction?

“He was the same guy he always is,” McCarthy said. “He was real respectful and he said he wishes the best for me.”

McCarthy already has some family connections to Notre Dame. His older brother is currently a student on campus.

“He’s in London right now,” McCarthy said of his older brother. “He gave me a phone call and I told him the news. He was so excited. He can’t wait for me to get there.”

A quarterback on the prep level, McCarthy could play a number of positions at Notre Dame.

“I talked to coach Weis about that,” McCarthy said. “He said coming in to camp, I will probably be on defense, but, he said with his offense, there are lots of possibilities and you never know what could happen.”

Does he have a preference on whether he lines up at cornerback or safety?

“I don’t,” McCarthy said. “ I just want to play wherever I can to get on the field and I just want to contribute.”

For McCarthy, it is a relief to have his decision behind him.

“Oh man, you have no idea,” McCarthy said. “It’s a huge relief. February 2nd can’t come fast enough. I’m just looking forward to that and enjoying the rest of my senior year.”

McCarthy sees an Irish program headed in the right direction.

“I think it’s definitely headed up,” McCarthy said. “You get somebody like Coach Weis and with his experience there is no doubt that he is going to come in and do the job. Everybody is very excited.”

For Kyle McCarthy it was a dream come true. In the past few days, he had received an official offer, visited Notre Dame and has given his commitment. It all worked out just the way it was supposed to.

Evan Sharpley also said he liked the tradition, he was Irish all the way....Hord liked the education. Kunz grew up a huge ND fan, and it was his dream to play for the Irish, Duncan was another guy who grew up a big ND fan, Turkovich grew up an ND fan, his family is all ND fans.Scott Smith loves the tradition, when Ty was fired he said he never thought of leaving ND because ND was the reason he came, not ty......

See, normally I would have expected Alberts to be on our side, but he just has nothing positive to say about anybody except Nebraska. Before this, I thought he was the 'traditional powers' guy.

Aaron Taylor pissed me off to no end with his comments. He called the school "Notre Lame" on network television and said no kid with any sense should want to play there. With friends like him, who needs enemies? That fat ass should have his degree revoked. At least Rocket Ismail was sincerely upset. Aaron Taylor was just being an ass.

The point stands: Lots of kids came to ND for the same reason this year as years previously. And with Weis in charge, we may even see more of those kids. How embarassing is it that Kuntz wasn't even offered by Ty Willingham?

I thought Trev Alberts had a career ending injury early into his pro career? I could be wrong. Also, speaking of Eric Crouch, he signed with the Chiefs today to help in the secondary. Incredible athlete with little heart.
