"Notre Dame. Even with the brutal schedule and huge expectations, the Irish and new coach Charlie Weis are a lock for eight wins. Wait and see how underused and poorly coached quarterback Brady Quinn and underused and poorly coached receivers Rhema McKnight and Maurice Stovall (seeing a trend yet?) thrive under Weis."

"Matt:
"For some unknown reason, I read your mailbag whenever it's posted, but it basically just consists of people calling you stupid for not picking their team to win the national championship followed by some flippant response from you questioning your readers' blind devotion to their teams.
"Please answer some actual questions about football some time. That's far more interesting than a pissing match between a writer and his readers. In case you are fielding actual football questions, how long do you think it will be before Tyrone Willingham can turn around Washington?

"Chrissie:
"You want actual answers, pal? Here goes: Washington panicked and threw Rick Neuheisel in front of the NCAA to save face, then spent millions on legal fees and an eventual payoff after its lawyers stumbled and bumbled to hide the fact that its compliance officer -- an NCAA liaison, no less -- specifically told Neuheisel twice that he could bet in NCAA hoop pools.
"Then, to stop the bleeding, UW hired a nice coach in over his head (Keith Gilbertson) to do the impossible, then never supported him and eventually fired him after one of the worst seasons in the school's history.
"Then, after all that ineptitude, the new athletic director and president hired a coach who was fired from his last job because he couldn't recruit and couldn't win big games. But he has integrity. Let's see how far that gets you when that beautiful stadium on the shores of Lake Washington is half empty midway through the season.
"How's that for a pissing match, Chrissie?"
