I have begun to wonder if ESPN isnt gaming us a little for some (unknow reason) down the line, my thoughts wonder this way because they seem to include us in every conversation no matter what the subject. I think they want Notre Dame on their agenda for future considerations and hope to land some kind of deal for TV rights. I understand the NBC contract etc but ESPN is $$$ first and ratings and something tells me they have something up their sleeve. Mark May is just an irrelavant commentator ( Colin Coherd ) carrying out his orders or being allowed to show his comtemp for Notre Dame. Lou is the wild card here as we all know he is a son of Notre Dame and some of his comments are interesting. Did you hear him say Sun night that he has never felt better when the subject of coaching came up? This will all be very interesting next year if they get off slow and coaching issues come up again. I quarantee you Lou thinks he could still lead Notre Dame to a national title and so do I. His brain hasnt changed in 12 years.

I despise Mark May. He is an awful commentator and obviously doesn't bring much to the table in terms of analysis or inside information (we all love that concept here, I know). I've never seen him analyse a game or play, he doesn't seem to have any contacts with ADs or coaches (although he has a solid relationship with Pete Carroll's dick which he is constantly trying to suck). I'm not sure why ESPN retains him. He never really gave much in the way of opinion until his "Son, you're not a soldier" speech to Kellen Winslow a few years ago. I remember watching that speech and musing on whether it signaled his rise to douch baggery. It did and it turned out to be a meteroic rise.

That being said, there are probably a lot of people who feel the same way about Lou. You said that "Lou is a little big on ND but who cares?". Who cares are probably the people who don't care for Notre Dame or don't tune into ESPN to hear opinions. There are probably an equal number of people out there saying "Mark hates Notre Dame but who cares?".

In truth neither of them add much to College Gameday. If ESPN wants to have a back and forth about ND football they should consider giving the two of them a 1/2 hour show on ESPN Radio.

Mark May is a clown good for an occasional laugh now and then. Being an ND fan aside, he doesn't actually say anything that adds to the football discussion on any team, and time after time his "predictions" go wrong. It's funny to watch Lou (yes he is a homer) outwit him on what is really important in college football. It's obvious Lou has forgotten more about College Football then May ever knew. When Lou is wrong he admits he was (10 wins prediction?), when May is wrong he is very quiet (reference Weis's first year). Like I said, a man who can't admit when he is wrong, is a clown.

You never cease to amaze me, (NAME REDACTED, because I've been warned about calling him a dork). The fact that you back up a guy who shows so much hatred and stupidity towards one university says everything we need to know about you and your fake-ND fanhood.

Do you even watch him speak on a consistent basis? I highly doubt it. The first year CW was the coach, May predicted ND to lose pretty much every damn game. Not because we weren't any good, but because of reasons that had nothing to do with on-the-field football. Does that make him a good analyst? Of course not, but you wouldn't know anything about that. And the next year, he was right about us getting blown out in the bowl game (wow, took a real Einstein to pick that one). Of course, HE PICKED US TO LOSE EVERY GAME THAT YEAR!!! So how does that make him right about us, when he really went 3-9??? Is that a good analyst to you? Oh wait, you already answered that --- 'yes sir'.

So the past 2 years he has been right. Let's see, if I say Team A is going to lose every game, and they go 6-6, does that make me a genius? No, that makes me average. He's picked us to lose almost every game the last 4 years, and we're above .500 over those years. So how does that make him a good analyst?

Mark Mark says things with such a smugness and a "I'm better than thou" attitude that of course it turns viewers off (viewers with a brain that is). The other posters who mentioned Herbstreit are absolutely right. He's by far my favorite analyst on TV. He says his opinion without being smug or degrading. He's not always right (who is???), but he's right more often than he's wrong. Can't say that about your boy Mark May...
