My mistake then. However, I disagree with you on principle. I think in the right situation with enough talent, theres no reason a true freshman shouldnt start. I think JC is a perfect candidate to jump in and have success with us.

-----I agree as I think he's head and shoulders better than the other QB's we have (my opinion), but he's hurt and the Clausen firestorm would be hardcore. Picture his first away game in Happy Valley at night during their "White Out" on national TV. Followed by a trip to the Big House the following week. That's throwing your QB into the fire.

Any worse than being a high profile ND recruit deep in SC country? Ill grant you the crowd size isnt remotely what it would be in State College, but the media backlash on him, I think thoroughly tested him.

Not intending an attack here, but have you ever met him? I have, and let me tell you, he's definitely got his head on straight. If you ever get the chance, take note of how he carries himself, it's very professional and mature for someone in his situation.

we all seem to forget about Colt McCoy. he did pretty good for being thrown into that firestorm /osu game. with more fanfare out of highschool, JC has a lot more physical talent than what Colt has. i think with Weis running the show, he won't be asked to do more than he can; unless he's really hurt. then give it to DJ. we weren't effective last year against GT with BQ so what makes anyone think offensively that things would change with a lesser somewhat of a drop back qb? (Sharpley) let's learn from WVU. they pounded GT with a option qb with an explosive back. (mind you, this is all if JC can't start.) -don

Lotta of Rumors in SB that Demetrius Jones will start and Charlie is going to run the offense w the LOU HOLTZ PLAYBOOK - option and veer. That will be for GT only and then change back for Penn St.

I can buy the first part of that, but sorry, that stuff about running the option (and for just one game, at that) is 'bout the silliest thing I've heard.

and Colt McCoy was a redshirt freshman. He was essentially in the same position Jones is in.

I would say no matter who starts, they are going to be thrown into the fire at PSU and UM. It's not like any of them have any significant experience. They'll just have to learn quickly.

the latest rumor i just heard was that CW slipped in practice saturday and said aloud that DD will be the starter... that the job was Sharpley's to lose and apparently he has. The rumors are truly getting out of hand. Anyway, it will be interesting come Saturday... hope the D-line holds up and we get a few t.o's to swing things our way early.

Go Irish!

I feel it's been DJ all along. I dont think CW ever really expected Sharpley to win the job because both DJ and JC have had time now to cancel any edge Evan had with knowing the playbook. By now, they'd better know it completely or theyre not astute enough to run the offense anyway. I really want JC to get it, but I'll be fine with DJ. Sharpley, though, scares me because I see him as a Drew Henson type.

There does seem to be a building consensus among bloggers and the punditocracy that DJ will be the starter. In my mind, this should be compelling evidence that he almost certainly WON'T be. ;)
