I surf the internet everyday for news on ND to try to find out what news I can, but everyday I find more programs are getting into trouble. By this I mean that players are fighting each other, getting arrested on a regular basis, doing drugs. I just read that 2 more South Carolina players were arrested this weekend for marijuana possession. That brings the total number of players arrested from that program to 11 since their last game. And do you remember what their last game was like? That awe-inspiring fight on the field! What a bunch of un-disciplined children. USC has ineleigible players, and when their players are not going to class, they are fighting each other over bets made on video games. WHERE IS THE DISCIPLINE? Since Feb. 2004, 11 Tennessee players have been arrested for crimes ranging from aggravated assault to underage drinking. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? What happened to coaches having control over their players? And dont even get me started on Ohio State. "In the Buckeyes' football program, quarterback Troy Smith has one game left on a two-game suspension for taking money from a booster. The NCAA is looking into allegations by former running back Maurice Clarett that players received money from boosters and frequently were given high-pay, no-show jobs."- ESPN. Does the NCAA do anything to these teams who cant function properly? I honestly think something serious should be done here. I mean come on, 11 players? That is practically a whole offensive or defensive unit. I am so glad Notre Dame has players that act with class and intelligence. Any thoughts on whats going on?

texan, I think its a combination of more media coverage and a generally less-disciplined culture.

I'm sure that things like this have been happening for years, but in this age of 24-hour sports on TV, Radio, and the Internet; we know everyone's business.

As for the discipline, I don't know what it is. My guess is that families are more "fluid" than they used to be, kids get more responsibilities & freedoms at an earlier age, and you have a growing number of coaches & administrators who are willing to win at all costs.

Well that is always one of the best things about ND, a class program. But I think in terms of the kids getting in trouble, its more of a modern day society problem then a football problem really.

i guess i am just biased, i dont know. being a former marine, if i did anything like this while i was in could get you kicked out, i.e. drugs. but do any of these players that get into trouble, i mean serious trouble like drug possession, assault, dui's, ever lose their scholarship? that might light a fire under someones butt. It just seems to me that these kids are given free reign to do whatever they want and just get a slap on the wrist. i mean taking money from a booster? i struggled to get through college financially, but these kids have no tuition. all they need is a part time job and they have it made. i know all programs probably do it, but jesus. think about all the other kids who work full time, have enormous student loans, and go to class. a 2 game suspension for taking 6 grand. i would do that for a two game suspension, 6 grand in college is like having a million bucks when you dont have to worry about tuition! the ncaa has to give out harsher punishments in my opinion.

Most State schools are pathetic. Their sellouts, they don't care what these kids do, they just use them for football. Look at Michigan, it's a very good academic school, yet they don't graduate half their athletes. They just use these kids for sports revenue.

You'll never see ND use a kid for football, their placed with, and treated like the rest of the student body.

a good case in point - a couple years back, there were some players that were accused of rape in a dorm room on campus. After looking into the matter, ND immediately expelled them from the university. There were some critics saying that it was unfair, since the players claimed it was a "consensual" group sex thing. ND's response was simple - rape or no rape, that sort of activity would not be condoned on campus. It's refreshing to see a University make that sort of statement in this day and age.

I just read that Brent Schaeffer from Tennessee is leaving the program. He was arrested and charged with assault. I dont know if hes going somewhere else to play. 2 Georgia players were arrested for assault in a bar fight from April 10. They have also been suspended. Former Mizzou football player Darrell Jackson,19, pleaded guilty to sodomizing an 8 year old from 2000-2004. He has since left the team and will be sentenced in june.

I'm glad that the worst thing that ever happened to ND was Kim Dunbar. That whole ordeal could have been a lot worse.

I'll take 8-3 with integrity over at national title any day. The 89 Fiesta Bowl still leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of all the personal foul penalties against WVU. Even Lou was disappointed.

I remember ND was 'listed' when Schaeffer was looking at schools. Did he formally have an offer to be our QB?
