So, earlier this morning I took my truck in for a somewhat overdue inspection. And of course they call later and say its a good idea to replace the hoses etc., and I agree w/out asking for an estimate. When its ready we find out that it will be around $600. I get my truck and have to take my 4 month old Rottweiler to puppy class. I running pretty late and was going there from a different direction, and had to find a way to go around construction due to the moving of a waterpipe (which not only has closed many streets, but has placed water restrictions on the entire town in the middle of summer making business very hard for my mobile car wash.)

On the way there I notice its starting to smell like maple syrup, and I guessed it was the dog treats. Of course, I happen to hit every red light and I get behind every possible geriatric driver on the face of the earth. Then, I see what I thought was dust coming out of my air vents, so I turn off the air. Then I realize that it was not dust but smoke which is now seeping out from the hood of my truck, in reaction I say "oh, no" (actually, I probably didn't say that, but it was something similar). At this point I'm about a block away from the dog school, but I am stuck at this light for 5 frickin' minutes, I swear.

Finally, the damn light turns green and I turn left to realize the street I need is now closed for the damn pipeline. I now have to go around the block and backtrack, hitting another red light in the process. Smoke is billowing out from under my hood and all I can think of is a car I saw whose hood caught fire and the entire front was burned off. I see the parking lot for the dog school and I gun it for the nearest parking spot. Just when I am about to get out of the car (smoke is everywhere and I can hardly see out of the windshield) some toothless hillbilly drives by laughing, laughing.

In any case, I called the mechanics and they came and fixed some hose that came loose (part of the $600 payment) or something, I don't really understand what they were talking about. And I had to wait thirty minutes after the class got finished. But, no worries fellow members of IE, I am alive fortunately (I'm not sure if I was ever near death in the first place) and I have to take my truck back in so they can check on it, and the gas pedal is sticking.
