Mr. Goat just posted this info on II this morning.

Minter Fired - Corwin Brown to be DC and secondary coach.
Vaas Fired - Powlus new Quarterback coach.

Brown on his way to see Chris Donald and Lorenzo Edwards.

This is from an ND employee in the Joyce Center. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messanger. I'd say close to 100% correct.

Let's all hope it's true

Vaas fired? The QB coach? Did he not do a good job with Quinn or do you think that Quinn's progress was all due to Weis?

In any case, I can't confirm any of what is being posted about the coaching changes, but they certainly don't seem like bad moves.

I guess my question would be, who is going to coach the LBs if this is true, and who will Bill Lewis be coaching if Corwin Brown is the new secondary coach?

I've heard it's no so much Vaas fired, but taking up an opportunity maybe in the NFL. He has quite a resume. He won't be a college QB coach for long.

Remember, ND had contacted Walker for the job sometime ago. Brown seems to have a lot of similarities to Walker, albeit with lesser total experience. Both started coaching at the college level (Brown at Virginia 01-03), Walker bouncing from place to place after his start at Mt. San Antonio College, which incidentally, is the only place he had prior d-coordinator experience. Both were/are secondary coaches. Both have the Bilicheck/Mangini connection.

I agree, the big questions would become what about Lewis and linebackers? And if Minter goes, does Jappy go as well?

He was head of an NFL Europe team that won the world bowl...I have NO DOUBT that he is looking for something bigger.

Agree I doubt Vaas was fired, probably just moving on to the NFL. I heard the Giants are a strong possibility for him which would make sense for him because of Weis' strong connections to the Giant organization, he may of put in a good word for Vaas. Vaas is more then capable of being a good NFL QB coach.

On a side note the Giants would also be smart to hire Cutcliffe as their OC and reunite him with Eli. Cutcliffe is one of the best offensive minds in college football and could easily make the transition like Chow has.

I think someone was saying that Vaas was going to retire. Powlus has been involved with the QBs for a couple years know, he might be able to keep Clausen's head from swelling too big with hype.

from what i understand, cw did evrything w BQ and Vaas handled the non-starters. whether this trend continues or not remains to be seen.

Yep, ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago just reported it too during their last Sports Center. I was in the shower at the time and had my head under the shower head, so I didn't catch all the details, but I got the jist of it.

Someone over on DD said that Parcels called Brown one of the toughest guys that ever played for him. That is huge praise coming from Parcels. Hopefully his toughness and attitude will manifest itself through the defense.

Ron worked with the QBs for only a couple of months with the NCAA's permission. It was during the time when Cutcliff left and when Vaas was hired.

He was on the sidelines all year though, so I'm sure he was working with them in some capacity.

Weis was coaching Quinn himself. Vass's priority were the other QB's behind Quinn. I read a post on the UHND board that said Lewis was going to retire, so if Brown is going to coach the secondary, then I guess that's probably what happened.

I just wondering who else is coming in to coach the linebackers?

I dunno, call me skeptical. I seem to recall Urban Meyer being a "done deal" once upon a time.

Until I hear it from Charlie Weis's mouth, I'm not gonna believe it.

Sure would be interesting, though, especially Powlus as the QB coach. I would be absolutely THRILLED at that. Powlus never got the chance to live up to his full potential here, and I get the feeling he would be driven to make sure the same thing never happens to some other poor kid on his watch. Certainly knows a thing or two about playing through adversity, and whoever wins the privelege of playing behind our craptacular O-line this year will need someone like that behind them.

I bet being the Notre Dame QB coach would be a sweet gig. All you would do is stand next to Weis and Nod. Id love to get paid for that. lol
