The New Controversy is that Youngstown State University and Head Coach Bo Pelini are letting a convicted rapist play football (kid is a walk on) and you have petitions circulating that are demanding he be dismissed from the football team or letting him stay

if you were in the chair what would you do? for me i agree with Bo if he wants this second chance he deserves it and if he screws up you dismiss him

That's tough... what sort of sentencing did they receive initially? Have they served their time from what they did? It's a crime that holds a lot of societal stigma and for good reason... But it seems like people think that committing that crime should be an automatic death sentence, or to have the rest of your life completely ruined. I don't really agree with that line of thinking and I think that you can be rehabilitated. He was probably some punk kid who thought he was on top of the world at Steubenville and could do whatever he wanted. I really hope that he has grown as a person from this experience and paid for his sins.

I tend to think people should get a 2nd chance in life once they pay their debt. That being said, sometimes you do things that have lasting affects. Playing football is a privilege. I'm not sure he should get that privilege back. I might be wrong but wasn't this the case where they dragged a drunken girl (like 14) around to parties and did some pretty nasty things to her? It was pretty messed up as I recall. Either way, hope the man has truly become a better person.

from what i remember it was he didn't seek football out at his other 2 schools (well the other one didn't have it) but Pelini was the one who seeked him out

Yeah and I really don't know enough about the entire situation to say one way or another. I really don't remember what his involvement was in the rape and what kink of person he is now. Pelini obviously feels strongly that the kid should be given a chance. It's not like he's some 5 star stud that is there only for W's and L's. Hope it works out best for everyone involved.

What about the swimmer from Stanford? Essentially got a slap on the wrist. Would you let him swim at your college? Even pass him thru admissions? Imagine if your kid had to room with him...

State school or no you don't have any sort of legal right to be on a college football team. If you did, think of all the processed-out kids who could sue every university in the SEC.

That said, to me, this is a judgement call. It's hard to say what I'd do without knowing the person involved. If he served his time I think he should be able to move on with life, but I also understand why some people are concerned.

If Bo has a daughter like I do, I don't know how he could separate himself from knowing what this guy did to someone's daughter. If he can, he's a better man than me. I don't know all the legal or procedural things he has to go thru. I wouldn't/couldn't make this decision.

The ironic part about the judge giving Brock Turner a slap on the wrist "because he had a bright future" is that now he is so vilified because of the slap on the wrist that his future is completely ruined, which is what all of the outraged people wanted

yep atleast they didn't try and twist Bo's thumb and make him dismiss him cause these protests and i have a strange feeling that there will still be protest at the fact he is still on the team even though he is not playing.

If you read the article it says they can find no connection between the judge and the rape case involving his son

Well now the kid is suing the school cause they gave into the petition and fostering an anti male bias
