If ND would have beat Tulsa

In hindsight, if the Irish would have beat Tulsa, they, more than likely, would have not been bowl eligible with losing the last three games and ending up 5-7. Its obvious, the slap in the face loss to Tulsa was the rock bottom point the team needed to reach to start getting better. You really have to learn how to lose before you can learn how to win. The losses prior to that point could be justified as almost wins (minus the Stanford game) and the team really didn't learn anything from them. On the other hand, the Tulsa game platter of "how bad you really are" served right in the face was something to learn from. Its nice to see how they responded!

In addition, I am having a hard time finding all the Kelly haters for some reason. If anyone sees them, I think Michigan Skate needs some bandwagon fans. please point them in the direction of North, kick their A** (just because you can of course), and show them there is no room here for crap like that! ND is a love them or hate them school, same as yes and no. No room in the middle!

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and let you know you lost me...

I digress: I think you're WAY off here. That being said, you're entitled to your opinion. But the Tulsa loss would have had no bearing on these two games whether we had won or not, IMHO.

Happy holidays!
Go Irish!

this team hit rock bottom and Kelly, his coaches and his team had to finally take a hard look in the mirror. I still think we would have had a chance to win these 3 games but this team has played with fire especially on D and I think those 2 awful losses are a big contributor to that. Charlie never had this ability. LEt's win a bowl game and get on track for the return of ND a la the Lou Holtz first year!

Win or Lose vs. Tulsa, I think having the off week the next week was the key. Having a loss going in may have heightened the urgency and focus some.

But either way, they were able to heal a little, reflect a little and go back to work without a "must win" hanging over them in a few days. It also allowed the reintroduction of extremely physical practices which from all accounts the older guys on the team (even some who were nicked up) took over and showed the leadership that this team seemed to be lacking up until then.

By the time they started real game prep for Utah the second week this was a different group. It seems they had bought in to the new program, the game slowed down for them on both sides of the ball and a new mentality was established.

Catching Utah after they had been exposed by TCU helped. But all credit needs to go to Kelly, the staff and the team. The opportunity was there and they took it. Not just against the Utes but the next two weeks as well.

Still, my lasting memory of last night will be how happy I was for the seniors who stepped up big and were keys to the game - Duval, Harrison and Brian Smith and of course, Mr. Hughes!

Really? The Tulsa loss was "rock bottom"? You're saying that there was still room to fall, after getting their a$$es whipped by Navy?
