I am on break and told my boyfriend what I have been up to the past half an hour, which is grinding up a man's infected scrotum.

His response?

"Typical woman"

Love me some microbiology, currently a medtech myself. If you don't mind me asking what capacity do you work in micro?

A fellow Med Tech? No way!! Love it!!

I'm MLS(ASCP)cm, but currenly work strictly in Microbiology. I work second shift, I do a lot of plating of specimens, analyzing urine cultures and blood cultures, reading gram stains, and all the rapid tests (we just started our flu testing for the season yesterday - god help me).

That sounds ridickulously painful. Grinding up? As a woman you must be having a ball.

(The misspelling is on purpose Dshans)

Very nice. I actually just graduated a little over a year ago. I'm a generalist at the moment in a rapid response lab. Micro was always my first love though.

I graduated May 2012, so I'm right there with you. I did the generalist thing for a few months right after I graduated. I did it on third shift and hated it. But that was mostly because the lab I was at decided that it would be fair for the third shift person (again, PERSON, I was the only tech on thirds in this hospital) to do the QC for EVERY department, to do ALL the daily/weekly maintenance in EVERY department. AND do all the monthly maintenance in EVERY department. And then of course all the testing that came in throughout the night. I did that for about six months before I burnt out. There was just no way.

Wow. Thats terrible. Yeah i dont think i would be able to do that either. We have a slightly weird set-up. We are really our own company and have a contract with the hospital we are located in. We also have a large core lab where micro, tox, flow, etc., are located and it also pretty much acts as a reference lab. We also have a contract with a biomedical company that runs chemotherapy drug level testing so I get to spend a little on the industrial side of things. As a generalist, I kinda feel like a jack of all trades, master of none. Other than that, pretty good so far.

I dont think I'm gonna look in this thread anymore. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds like Scrotal = Balls, Cellulitus = Cottage Cheese. Absolutely sick. Thanks for helping people with these problems and for having a strong stomach.
