Think for a minute, what the bowl line up would be if there wasn't a BCS and the old tie-ins still existed....

Something like:
ROSE: Spoiled Children vs. PSU
ORANGE: Texas vs........ND?????
SUGAR: UGA vs.....Miami
FIESTA: tO$U vs....Oregon??

and U BICH would STILL play Boise St. in the Mienke-Brake-Special Bowl on the Smurf Turf...

Any other thoughts???

As freaky and convoluted as the BCS can be, it sure beats the old system.

It's the conference championship games and conference tie-ins that really gum up the BCS though, because they do the exact same thing that a playoff would do: dilute the impact of the regular season. FSU stumbles and fumbles their way into the ACC Championship Game and manages to get it together for just long enough to win. Georgia lucks out and practically gets to play the SEC Championship Game in their home stadium. To add insult to injury, West Virginia runs the table in the Big Joke Conference. FSU, Georgia and West Virginia all get to play on the big stage, while Oregon, LSU and Virginia Tech get to play in the Poulan Weed-Eater Also-Ran Bowl.

If we're gonna have these stupid conference championship games and tie-ins, we might as well just switch to a playoff and be done with it. If we just took the BCS rankings and put the top 8 teams in the BCS games, the system would work a helluva lot better. Sorry, West Virginia... try joining a real conference. Sorry, Georgia... try beating Florida. Sorry, FSU... try beating Clemson and NC State.

I don't think west virginia should be in a BCS game either Vince. However it's not their fault that miami, va tech and BC left the big east. We can't penalize them for that. As my old high school football coach would say "we can only play who is on our schedule". Schedule's are made a couple years ahead of time so i'm sure in a few years west virginia will schedule some tougher non-conference opponents. Or maybe they will try to leave the big east.

Domer95, this is a great thought/question.

ND would/could actually have a chance at a National Championship by beating Tejas convincingly and PSU narrowly beating USC. That was when New Years days were fun. Now it is so drawn out.

However, being a little older than you it would have been fun to see ND-Tejas in the Cotton Bowl circa 1970 :)

Don't let anyone EVER tell you as a Notre Dame fan that ND are "whore" or "greedy".

What the ACC did to the Big East is a shame. It basically started a domino effect that actually WEAKENED the conferences in the overall big picture. C-USA and the MAC were really forging ahead. Now, parity has been set back because the ACC wanted it all....the most over glorified basketball conference to ever exist, so much so that Dick Vitale can't stop talking about it, and they got a football conference with a championship game.

West Virginia has a good program, but the Big East is very weak. The Moutain West might actually be tougher.

dude- I live in NC, and to take nothing from the ACC as far as hoops go- just b/t Duke & UNC alone- you have 7 national titles compared to what (not considering maryland's one & nc state's one)- uconn has 2, g'town with 1, 'nova with 1 & the cuse' with one- I mean let the truth be the truth!

ESPN thinks it is the only place where college basketball is played.

Michigan State, Syracuse and UConn would have something to say about this in the last five years.

Reggie Bush highlights during a Northern Illinois-Akron game?

Little too much love sometimes.
