Yeah I'm in the, if she's mature, 10 is ok.

My woman's 10 (almost 11) year old read them at 9 and there were no issues whatsoever.

She is a very mature child though. You should read it first, and see what you think? LA speaketh truth.

Gentlemen... I appreciate the feedback. I decided to hold off another year (thanks, Bogs) and read the books myself before allowing her to read them (thanks, LA). I bought her a gift card to Barnes & Noble so she could pick out some other books she wants, but that paled in comparison to the One Direction concert tickets she got. Even though she told us she wanted the book earlier in the week, it never came up yesterday when opening her presents. Thanks again to everyone that chimed in with their opinion. I knew I could count on IE.

I had my daughter expound on her thoughts, and she said in the book some of the death descriptions were a little over done. Protracted, and gory. But she said that was all.

I am giving her some of the books I read as a kid. Ivanhoe, Robin Hood (Pyle), Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Call of the Wild, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, etc. We will see how these books all stack up.

Good luck! It is important not to force anyone to grow up, and it is important to keep in interest in what they are doing.
