How many times do we have to keep saying "Just wait till next year!" or "oh well, a win is a win"? When the hell is this "next" year going to be here? We shouldnt have to say a win is a win. Because that means the game was way to close or we were in jeopardy of losing to a far less superior team? Examples: SDSU!!!!! NAVY!!!!!!. How many times do we have to be nervous about playing Navy or hell nervous against any other team other than USC? Its ridiculous.

Its honestly embarrassing to be an ND fan right now. All we have to go on is the amount of National Championships we have won and how many Heisman winners we have produced. Well neither or those have happened in 20+ years!!!! Its time for a change. We cant have a Pro-set offense. We need a simple offensive scheme that actually works. i.e Texas tech, Missouri, Florida, Ok. St. They seem to be doing ALRIGHT huh?

Im just sick of seeing this team not competeing with quality opponents. Sick of seeing us getting blown out by USC. But what do I know?

Well, if I read it correctly, I believe you are "just sick of seeing this team not competeing with quality opponents. Sick of seeing us getting blown out by USC."

The real question should be, how many times do we need to read the same thread that says the same things that have been said 100 times before? How many of those do we have to read before someone will say something original?

Considering the proximity of ND to Chicago, there are a lot of ND fans who also root for the Cubs, it's in their nature to say "Wait till next year"

The cure is this. Count how many schools actually enter the year with a realistic goal of a BCS Championship.... 10 maybe? ND is not one of them. How many schools have the yearly expectation of being in one of the 5 BCS games? 25 maybe? ND is not one of them. How many expect to compete for a conference championship/playing in a conference championship game? 30? Obviously ND is not one of them. There are 34 bowl games.... 68 teams who participate after qualifying. Notre Dame is hoping to be bowl eligible.

Then of the roughly 90 Div-I schools that takes football seriously... Notre Dame is firmly planted in the middle third of the pack..... this is the definition of an average program.

Not in the top 30, at least halfway into the middle third.

so what does this mean? It is obvious. Notre Dame is comparable to a mid-to-lower tier BCS conference team, or an upper end mid major conference team.

Notre Dame is a Purdue/Bowling Green (BG beat Pitt at Pitt)/Colorado/Cal-Stanford/Vandy/Ole Miss/BYU type team with a legendary history of success that is receding further in the past. So if Navy or Air Force or a team like Buffalo were to beat ND... it would not really qualify as an upset.

You can feel insulted, but match expectations with those programs. They are exactly the same. ND has a larger following, of course, and a more visible alumni, and fans that have disposable income and can travel to the Gator Bowl.

Yea that may be true this year, but was that the case in 2006 when we were preseason number 2? talk expectations all that you want, but the expectations for this years team were not the same as they were in 2006, and they wont be the same for the 2009 team.

they wont be the same for the 2009 team.

So tell me what a reasonable jump in expectations would be? To win a bowl game? That is outside the expectations of the top 30 programs. Above that is reaching a BCS game... so... that spells average. Unless you want to say that a BCS game is an expectation of 2009. I say actually winning a bowl game is reasonable for 2009.

I say winning a bowl game this year is a reasonable expectation this year, and a BCS game next year. I think the talent is there. CW or no CW, this team can win 10 games next year with that schedule....
