Thought you Irish fans hated Urban Meyer for turning down Notre Dame when the job was open, now ya love the guy? I dont get it

I never really hated him. His wife told him that she would not move to South Bend if he took the job. Also, he had already agreed to the Gator contract in principle when ND showed up. Meyer served admirably on the Irish staff and has not talked crap about us.

He's fine...

He made the easy decision going to Florida. The team was stacked, the weather nice, the recruiting easy, and it made his wife happy... I can't fault him for that.

I'm going to call BS on this one. There's no love lost for Urban Meyer here. He used ND's interest as leverage to better his bargaining position with florida. that makes him cheap and underhanded. frankly, last night's game was one of those 'meteor' games, where rather than rooting for either team, you'd rather a meteor would strike in the middle of the field and take care of both problems.

as for troy smith, i found it rather amusing that he had the night he had. welcome to brady quinn's world - a world where the offensive line play is so sloppy that you still hear footsteps even during the tv timeouts. smith got a taste of what it's like to play behind a shaky offensive line. that doesn't mean he's a bad quarterback. it means that it's difficult to perform well in that sort of situation.

Troy Smith was overrated as a quarterback all season. He is a very good athlete, not deserving of the Hiesman, but very good. I personally dont feel anyone who get suspended from thier team for taking money, should ever be even mentioned in the same sentence as Hiesman.

Just my thoughts..... :soapbox:

That makes him a good business man... Weis did the same thing with the contract extension.

not sure i follow your point. deceptively leading a school to believe that you have an interest in their coaching vacancy when the truth of the matter is that you have no interest other than padding your wallet at UF is 1) questionable at best in terms of 'good business practice' and 2) has little in common with weis' situation where the university was doing what was publicly stated as being in their best interest.

besides, even if you could compel me to believe that his conduct made him a 'good business man,' you can't compel me to like a guy (the original point of the post) that gave ND the big middle finger, exploiting a situation that left a lot of egg on the face of an administration that subsequently had to face a race relations issue at home with the firing of a black coach.

No credit to Florida....in all honesty, Florida won than game more so than Ohio State lost it

If youre not trying to give any credit to Florida, then maybe you should say that tOSU lost the game more than Florida won it. Just a suggestion.

How was he deceptive? He had the ND clause in his contract. He coached at ND. He loved ND. But he was clear once the dust settled, his wife drew the line. He was far along in the process but was willing to hear ND's pitch. Rumors indicated that he wanted some JUCO transfers and that was an issue... Then his wife put down her foot.

Looking back I am even shocked that he was willing to entertain ND's offer...which he was. And he did.

But ND was not right for him...so fine...we moved on and so did he.

You don't have to like him, but he never did us wrong.
