Here Come The Irish 2009
Here Come The Irish 2009
I bought the '08 issue last season. $12.99 for 112 page on ND football. It's published by Maple Street Press,
MapleStreetPress.com , who publishes similar magazines for select pro and college teams covering baseball, football, basketball, and golf.
They have a core staff of people and supplement them with articles written by alumni of the particular school or people associated with websites specializing on that school. The Here Come The Irish 2008 had input from 13 ND alumni which tends to give you a home fan perspective. These aren't professional writers but fans and website operators. An ND fan that thinks Weis is the new Moses leading the children of South Bend out 15 years of wandering through the Malloy Desert will tend to project that slant in an article. An ND fan that thinks Weis is more of the Davie, Willingham mediocrity will tend to project that in an article. It's not all homerism nor is it ND bashing.
The 2008 Edition had 4 sections each with 5 or 6 articles:
- 2008 ND Football
- Charlie Weis and the State of the Program
- Recruiting and Talent Development
- Notre Dame Heroes of Yesteryear
It's a slick (shiny too) publication. Lots of charts, photos, player writeups, and stats. They spend about a half page on each ND opponent.
If you like Phil Steele's comprehensive data you'll be disappointed. If you want more details that mags like Athlon provide it's a good choice. It competes with Blue & Gold's magazine and Irish Illustratred if they still have their's.
You can get them at the your local bookstore or online at the Link I listed at the top of this post.
Go Irish!
