This thing will be a blowout.

Too bad Quinn and McFadden have to show up for the dog and pony show.

3 last year, 3 this year.

Might be a new trend unless more guys start to stand out.

Last year and this year are similar in that at least one of the media darlings never fell from the spotlight. last year it was V. Young and R. Bush (def more bush, but still). this year it was smith and quinn....quinn's less than awesome games resulted in losses so he fell, but none of smith's did so he continued to be pimped as the end all be all of college football. the media created a near vacuum these past two years by the unreal hype and pimping throughout the season rather than level headed analysis as the season progressed.

Now, Bush and Smith are most definitely worthy of consideration if not outright victory, but that vacuum created so very little space for any other "fringe" guys to catch the national consciousness for more than a week or two.

We'll see this perpetuate so long as at least one of the pre-season 2 or 3 players both plays for a team that remains in contention for the NC and avoids faltering in a loss. Smith faltered a couple times, but his team didnt lose so they remained in contention. Quinn had an off day against UM and we lost. End of serious contention.

It also didnt help that many of the fringe guys played on fringe teams (HI, NIU, BSU, etc.)

My favorite media rhetoric is that Smith is a big game player that doesnt choke.

The truth is that Smith has a bad game and OSU still wins. Seems to me that Smith really isnt that valuable to his team. I firmly believe that OSU would be 12-0 with Zwick.

12-0....perhaps, but certainly without a doubt at least 10-2.

Where is ND without Brady? do we even have 7 wins? While i'm sure Weis could def formulate a gameplan and would have groomed sharpley sufficiently to not create a mess of things, but GT, MSU, UCLA, and maybe even PU would have been likely losses without BQ.

All of the stuff that happened in the OSU-PSU game prior to Smith's lob to gonzales never happened. neither of the pics, the 11-20 for like 60 yds didnt happen. none of it. never happened. 12-20-something against ILL for 115 or so? NEVER HAPPENED. their defense was stout enough to keep those from being losses.

Whatever, this is pretty futile, but with the lack of a game to think about on saturday, i guess this is what we have to complain about.

There just doesn't seem to be any consideration in this award for the quality of players around the guy. I was really impressed with how Quinn handled breakdowns in pass protection this year for the most part, and I don't recall Troy Smith having to deal with the same problem. That Ohio State team is loaded. ND is missing some parts.

If they'd only take a serious look at the stats, who the best player is, and, as previously mentioned, whoment the most to their team, I think Brady would be taken as the leading contender. Unfortunately, the ND haters will use that against him. Here in Phoenix, one of the sports show guys has a vote and didn't even place Brady in the top three. Why? "Cause he HATES ND!! What kind of BS is that?

If I remember right, it was the end of last years season, and Bush was neck in neck with Young. Everyone kept saying that if the candidate is playing in this game ( ND vs USC ), the winner will also get the Heisman. We know how that one went. I don't recall Brady even having a chance at that point? WTF?

Does anyone remember the "I'm #1" hat from that one Will Farrel skit on SNL?

Well, I think Quinn should show up wearing it, lol. Let Troy know that he will have made more $ at Ohio State than he'll bring in afterward.

I saw an ESPN poll last night that said McFadden would have a better pro career then Quinn and Smith. I can see him having a better career then Smith, but not Quinn.

That might be a toss up. It really depends on who drafts them. God, I hope Brady doesn't get screwed.

ESPN poll -- the final authority. i hate how they publicize their polls as objective truth. any redneck WVU yokel fan can vote without ever watching a game. polls are always so biased depending on the region. what a crock.

as for mcfadden having a better career... it ACTUALLY is quite possible. time will tell.

It will be interesting to see how ESPN bashes BQ at the Heisman Presentation. He is a finalist so they might be forced to actually speak highly of him. I may watch for that alone.

I dunno. Life as a RB is a bit easier when you have natural talent like McFadden. It's so hard to say how a QB will pan out.

I trust Weis in this case, he knows good QBs...but I could see McFadden being a super-star... QB is a much harder position. (especially if you get on a crappy team)

hopefully ESPN gets it right in honoring the players that are at the presentation for what they have accomplished on the field and off the field. it would be dissapointing to hear them mention a player's downfall or weaknesses. If they do this I will definately lose all respect.

They won't bash a guy at this event. Reguardless of who would be doing this, ESPN, NBC, CBS....doesn't matter, these three guys earned their right to be where they are and will each be spoken of very highly.

I don't have hope that there won't be some kind of jab or subtle quip by somebody.

With the understanding that the damn thing is pretty much locked up by smith, at least one analysts is going to have to chime in with why Brayd is not going to win the trophy. We all know the story. Everyone sitting in the seats at the club knows the story, but they have to tell it again anyway. He didnt throw 5 TDs for 400 yds against either UM or USC. He had to do that to win those games; defense, oline, be damned.

They'll qualify their statements with how much potential he'll have in the NFL and how he'll likely be a top three draft pick, etc, but they'll definitely have to discuss why he wont win the award.

What will be telling is the tone of the analysis. This isnt the set of gameday or a talk radio show. This is the downtown athletic club. Snark is not acceptable in this environment. grand predications and hyperbole should stay home.

If we hear cracks about the CiC trophy, I'll be pissed.

Time and place.

And you won't hear why McFadden didn't win it, only that he deserves to be there.

It sickens me that a cheating envelop taking scum like Smith will win an award that once had such prestige (before the USC taint that OJ and Bush placed on it).

It's a free trip to NY and a good dinner. Heard the weather supposed to be nice. Maybe he can catch a brodway show?

I'm suprised there even bringing three. There's no suspense in the Heisman any longer. Might as well just send the trophy ground mail.
