Now that Tampa has canned John Gruden what do you the chances of him coming to Notre Dame to fill our vacant OC spot? A few things to remember: Gruden's Dad coached in South Bend and John Gruden grew up there. Personally, I think we could do a lot worse. I happen to like Gruden's tenacity and attitude and think he could definitely help a young team searching for an identity.

yep but we cant afford his salary and he wont wanna go down from being a nfl hc to our oc, would love it but dont see it happen. A WCO would actually kinda fit the players we have though.

I hate to be negative BUT its not gonna happen. So the answer to your question is 0%. Gruden will find something more interesting to do. Someone will pick him up at some point. I say he stays in the pros.

Tampa fired Gruden? Where have I been? Win a Super Bowl and unemployed a few years later. Go figure, I bet Tampa is on a downhill slide for awhile.

Gruden has, in the past, stated that he has no want and patience to develop talent. Thus, having Gruden be a college level coach would be a waste of time bringing in recruits and developing them. Don't believe me? Look at the Quarterbacks in Tampa... under him, all have been vets, all have needed little refinement.

You mean since 2001, in 7 years he has missed the playoffs 4 times.

Coaches who have won Super Bowls do not become college offensive coordinators.

Not a possibility at this point.

0%, he would have to be a head coach in college and then I would bump the chances to 3%. He's a pro coach.

He took Dungy's team to the superbowl in his first year and then headed South. He was in full charge of football operations since 04 or05 and his teams have been an embarrassment since. If he can't recognize and develope pro talent, he would be a disaster trying to recognize and develop teenagers.
College football is as different from pro football as it is from high school football. Remember our last two high school coaches? For that matter, our last two pro coaches?
We need to stick with successful college coaches who have learned, loved and understood college men and how they relate to sports, education and personal development.

Dungy's team and Oaklands playbook. Several players were quoted as saying after the game "It was like we had their playbook." in reference to the defenses that were called.

Yeah I remember that, I lived in the Tampa area the year they won the SB and I remember interviews with the players afterword saying that Gruden did a ton of the audible calls and play calls in practice because he had Rich Gannons cadence down to a tee. Oakland was still running Gruden's offense the year they met so Tampa knew what the audibles were and everything.

Can we just kill this thread and stop making this site look so foolish? I mean, there is no chance in hell that Gruden would go from the pros (which he loves) to be a friggin offensive coordinator for a head coach who wants to call his own plays and run his own offense. Even if it is ND. If he sits out a year he'll have plenty of pro owners and GM's after him, guaranteed. Stupid, stupid, stupid thread...

On the money nd. Really guys I would love it but why on earth would he even consider it? What could he gain from it?

Nothing. He is not only and NFL HC but a Super Bowl winning one. I think there is still plenty of spots in the big leagues, I predict that he will have a job alot sooner than later. I would not be suprised if he was interviewing by the end of the week and had a job by Feb. '09 in the NFL. No way he would come to college unless it was HC and even if he loved ND no way he would work with the ego (Charlie) himself.

I'll take the blame...

I'll take the blame...

In defense of my thread I just wanted to hear what people thought. I never said either way whether I thought it was or wasnt a possibility. While I personally like Gruden I can respect people not caring for him. I was more interested on what people had to say about the OC vacancy and the response on Gruden getting canned.
