This was posted by rob_dog5. It's really information. I thought others here might want to read it:
************************************************
This is by no means endorsed by the ND staff itself so don't take this as for sure thing here, The staff has recently been after some guys that rivals or scout, me or anyone else may not know about, but with a couple of my sources as well as Scout, and rivals here is what I see the ND staff's big board looking like.
* (already offered by ND)
QB
TOP Target- *Jimmy Clausen 6'2 195 from Westlake Village, California
JC has been a target of everyone including ND from day one, but unlike most ND has been a realistic player in the sweepstakes, thanks to Weis history with QB's. JC is likley to end up Irish and do so starting in the near future, only 1 team other then ND has to feel they also have a shot and that's USC but I think ND wins this one.
Backup plan-Mike Paulas 6'5 220 from Syracuse, NY
Paulas is your prototypical QB tall, strong and has a big arm, he has shot up the board latley and has come from his brother's shadow (DUKE PG Greg Paulas). Paulas has some bigtime offers so no way is it a stretch to see Weis offer him, but Paulas who is waiting to see what will happen with the JC sweepstakes really likes ND, IF!!! Clausen ends up somewhere else Paulas would likley be Irish, his family loves the school (Brother almost came for FB) and he would fit in well with the system but he is likley headed elsewhere for now.
Backup Backup Plan-Matt Simms 6'2 200 from Ramsey, NJ
Simms is by no way a slouch the family tradition here is rich and there is little drop off at this age for the youngest. It's easy to trace the history between Weis and Simms and know there is a shot but at the same time he is just not up to par with JC or maybe even Paulas in the staff's eyes. If ND would miss on the first 2 they wouldn't strike out but this has almost no chance of happening.
RB
Top Prospects- *Marc Tyler 6'1 215 from Westlake Village, California, and *Armando Allen 5'9 180 from Hileah, Florida
-Much like last years incoming backs these 2 have a little different qualities. Both are good in there own right but Tyler is a bigger back who provides a make you miss and run you over ability, with great hands and the ability to be good at everthing. Allen on the other hand is faster then Tyler and that's no slap to Tyler, Allen runs a 4.38 forty and has been laser timed at that. The smaller back runs north/south and hits it hard, he has great speed but is not afrad to lower his shoulder. Tyler is down to 3 schools realisticly UCLA, USC, and ND. His father played at UCLA but USC and ND jumped on him early and are up there UCLA although might provide a better chance to impact early on. Allen presents an uphill battle for ND, a Florida kid he is going to be tough to take out of the big 3. Miami is likley to be the team that your going to have to beat.
Backup Plan- *Brandon Saine 6'0 200 from Piqua, Ohio and Daren Evans from Indianapollis, Indiana
-Saine is a extemely fast back (Ohio 100m champ last year). He is a home run threat to go at any time. I believe his recruitment will come down the big 3 Northern powers Ohio St, Michigan and ND. The Ohio native likes OSU but is not the only Ohio back there after and grew up a Michigan fan (kind of intresting), which bodes well for Michigan. ND was last to throw there hat in the ring, but he has mentioned he likes ND as well, his decision will likley be a while and depending on the other offers ND may come more attrective or less so in a hurry. Darren Evans is a Indiana boy who plays for powerhouse Warren Central. He has put up huge numbers and has drawn alot of attention and boasts a few offers. ND is waiting to see what happens with others but he would likley be the next back offered. If that happens ND has a good shot but will be battling some tough competition.
Backup backup plans- Robert Hughes 6'0 220 from Chicago, Illinois and John Clay 6'2 220 from Racine, Wisconsin
-Neither is likley to get a offer anytime soon. Clay has to get better in the classroom but he is a bruiser to look out for. Hughes also a bruiser is a tough runner that is local for the Irish. They have yet to go after him hard though (have stayed in contact), he has some nice offers (OSU, WVU among others) but Hughes only in a pinch or unless has a stellar SR year and really grabs ND's attention is likley headed elsewhere. Clay is a wisc lean at the time and Hughes is wide open.
WR
Top Targets- Arrelious Benn 6'1 205 from Washington D.C., Duval Kamara 6'4 205 from Hoboken, NJ and Deonte Thompson 6'0 180 from Belle, Florida
- All 3 of these guys are tremendous talents and can do different things. Kamara is big and physical and could get the high ball, Benn can do everything well and is similar I feel to RMcKnight (but maybe better), and Thompson is an absolute Burner. Benn has everyone calling and is looking very good for ND. He has kept in contact with the staff and with JC who is likley to be Irish. ND will be a player and a few schools to look out for are Miami, FSU, Penn St, and USC, but you have to feel good if your a Irish fan. Kamara right now seems wide open but has seemed to mention ND and Penn St alot early on, I would look for these 2 to be the major players here. Thompson again a florida kid who going to be ultra tough to get out of the state. UF, is the early leader, with Miami and FSU trying to catch up but ND is getting a visit from the prospect for the blue-gold game on his own dime which means he's intrested.
Backup plan- Greg Little 6'3 210 from Durhum, NC, Tony Logan 6'0 190 from Piscataway, NJ and Joe McKnight from River Ridge, Louisana
-Little seemed to be on the verge of an offer for ever but just got it from the ND staff, the versitile player plays RB in hs but is likley to play WR in college. Logan is another player who is likley to change positions from QB to WR in college and ND has stayed in close contact with him. McKnight who said recently he would like to visit ND comes from a powerhouse in the state of Louisana. McKnight a game breaker is putting up unbelievable track numbers this year (10.5) early on so you know he has speed. Little really likes ND and has been wanting this offer for a while. He has blown up and is wide open but ND should been in this for the long run. Logan is likley to get an offer is one of these guys passes, and Logan is intrested the prospect is wide open right now. McKnight is likley to be a LSU and everyone else battle. LSU rarley loses instate players they really want and they want McKnight. McKnight is versitile and can also play CB so ND is likley to offer when they learn more in my opinion. He could be a LSU and ND battle in the end.
backup backup plan-?? offers on defense like Ronald Johnson and Cedric Everson are being talked about as ath's and depending on the needs they will come in on either side.
