Cape League Spotlight: Eric Maust | CapeCodOnline.com
by Nicole Auerbach Cape Cod Times July 17, 2009
A GA kid he was ready to commit to UGA or AUB for baseball when an ND alum suggested to his dad that he should check out ND. So he went to an ND baseball camp during his senior football season. Problem was he broke a knuckle on his pitching hand the week before the camp in a HS football game. He went to the camp wearing a soft camp. He took it off and pitched through the pain. Coach Mainerdi was sold.
He took an official baseball visit to ND during football season and got to see an ND football game. Standing in front of Touchdown Jesus, Mainerdi offered him a baseball scholarship. Maust told him he'd come but only if he could play football as well. Mainerdi got him in touch with Weis and Maust committed to ND to play two sports.
Interesting insights into recruiting and playing two sports while handling a tough major. Very good interview.

Eric Maust doesn’t get much sleep during the school year. Between baseball workouts and football practice, the two-sport athlete at Notre Dame has a lot on his plate. Throw in his difficult major – finance – and it’s impressive that he’s able to succeed in all three areas. And even though he’s the punter for one of the most prestigious college football programs in America, Maust is entirely focused on baseball on the Cape this summer. With advice from Tom Glavine in the back of his mind, the Hyannis Mets’ right-hander prepares for his final season of baseball eligibility and next summer’s MLB draft.
