Michigan fan here ... long-time lurker first-time poster.

I've watched the game about ten times now, have started to sober up, and thought I'd share my thoughts.

First of all, I question the credibility of anyone out there saying that Notre Dame was overrated, this was a game between two mediocre but over-hyped teams, etc. Anyone who watched the game would have had to be impressed with ND's offense, particularly Floyd. He looked like the best receiver in the country to me, and reminded me of a younger Calvin Johnson. Not least of all, because he made Cissoko look like a JV player through most of the game. If Floyd doesn't go out towards the end, and CW keeps passing to him, the game might have ended differently.

And speaking of Cissoko, the push on Floyd after he was already down was assinine. I couldn't believe the ref didn't call an unsportsmanlike, and I hope Rodriguez had him running windsprints after practice all week, regardless of whether or not he had to violate NCAA practice hours limits to do it (just kidding investigators!).

At the same time, I don't think the refs cost ND the game. I told anybody who would listen at halftime that it was a miracle UM was only down three, and that if the defense couldn't make some serious adjustments, the game would get out of hand. As it turns out, the D came out and looked like a different group of guys after halftime, and gave the UM offense the opportunity to pull out an unlikely win. I'm not saying this to badmouth CW, but if you subscribe to the notion that a gameday coach proves his worth at halftime, Rodriguez won that battle.

Finally, let me say that it is a pleasure being a rival of ND. Of course every team has its contingent of blowhards and jackass fans, but I find the percentage much lower on this and some other ND message boards than those of Michigan's other "traditional rivals." (I won't name names, but one is an animal husbandry school north of Ann Arbor, and the other rhymes with "Schmoschmio State"). It's nice to read the comments of people who would rather talk about football than how much "WE RULE!" and "YOU SUCK!"

So good luck with MSU. Normally I would root for the Big Ten and against ND (what can I say, I want UM to keep those #1 rankings in all time wins and win%), but in this instance I'd like everyone to shut up about the quality of this ND team, and acknowledge that last week's was a game between two programs on the right track to get back to where they should be.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I think some of the hand-wringing here over ND's defense might be a bit overblown. Call Rodriguez's offense what you will (unique, creative, gimmicky, etc.), but he does make the defense defend the entire field, and Forcier consistently made people miss in the backfield, when any other UM quarterback in my memory would have been eating dirt. I'm not sure how much more of that you'll see this season.

Regards.

Excellent post and I agree. Don't be a stranger over here. You'd be a nice addition to our community. Always nice to talk to folks who can be objective and level-headed in their analysis. Thanks man.

Great post. Other teams fans are always welcome here, in my opinion. Especially fans that are so objective in their assessments of their team and other teams. Welcome!!!

Good post TTLM. Forcier was definitley elusive and the style of offense is hard to stop.

I still think the refs had too much to do with the outcome. I am hearing that everywhere.

Oh well. Game over. On to the next one. Gotta love football season.

Nice post, you guys played a heck of a ball game on Saturday. It looks like the sky is the limit for Forcier, you guys seem to have something special with him. Come back anytime.

I agree! Its the 2nd game of the year and everyone thinks that a ranked team has to beat an unranked team or they suck. Nobody knows how these "unranked" teams are going to perform through the season. I've never seen a rookie QB perform the way Forcier did. Bad defense or not, he was put on a big stage, against a big opponent, and made very very little mistakes. Rankings mean nothing till game FIVE is over!

Nice post TTLM. You guys are going to have a good year. Thanks for pointing out that ND is what we think they are. That must have been difficult. hahaha

Thanks, and great post! Glad to see you're a realist. Some thoughts:

* Disagree on the refs (ahhhhhhggggggg, the freakin' refs!!!), but whatever, what's done is done. I'm still not over it, obviously. But.....scoreboard, we lost.

* Some posters and I said this before the game last week, but a lot of us suddenly got scared after watching Mich's first game. And we were right, you guys are waaaayyyyyy improved.

* RichRod handed Tenuta his lunch. Oh my Lord, my buddies and I had no idea what the hell Michigan was going to do on the next play, and sadly, neither did Tenuta. Run, pass, we had no idea. I must admit I hate your coach (I just think he's not a very good guy), but he is one helluva playcaller.

* What a game! What a fucking game!!! Take away your allegiances, step back a second, and think about what a game that was. Instant classic, as painful as it sounds. ND down by 11 twice, Michigan down twice, both teams running their offenses to a T. Special teams both great and bad. Major League rivalry. Fantastic football. (and yes, really bad defense)

* Forcier. You guys were right, and we were wrong. Kid can absolutely play. Admit it ND fans, you hate it when people talk crap about JC despite his unbelievable talent. I'm not going to do that to Forcier. He's got skillz, big time.

See you next year Mich...

My brother-in-law is a huge Michigan fan, he hates to lose to ND just as much as I hate to lose to Michigan. We always watch the game together and never, ever down each other regardless of the outcome. Your statements remind me much of how we discuss the game afterward. Keep the posts coming and look forward to your comments and insights. Who knows, we could very possibly meet up again at the end of the season!

BTW, I called him tonight and called him a di*$ sucking Michigan lover..... was that wrong??? :devil_2:

Not at all. I've said much worse to my favorite di*$ sucking ND-loving friend.

Your post reminded me of when he and I first met as freshman at UM in 1994. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor and had been attending every home game since in the womb, so there was little question about who my favorite team would be. He had just moved to campus from NY, but had an ND alum father who'd clearly done a good enough job brain-washing him to the point where he could attend UM and maintain his ND football loyalty.

In any event, we had only been on campus for a few weeks, but had made fast enough friends that a whole group of us were watching the game in his (and his roommate's) dorm room. He, of course, was the only one rooting for ND. After staying pretty quiet throughout the game while drinking beer and smoking ... stuff ... on his loft bed, Remy Hamilton hit the game winning field goal. While the rest of us were cheering and high-fiving, he quietly jumped down from his bed, put on a pair of boots, lifted his right foot, and put it through his new freshman-year roommate's TV.

I'd had enough to drink to think it was f***ing hilarious and kept talking s**t to see if we couldn't make him freak out further, but suffice it to say, he and I ended up better friends than him and his roommate.

Thought I'd stop by and say good luck as well, but I'll be routing for MSU, gotta pull for the Big10. I will say you guys should rip MSU by 20, but anything can happen.
