Good luck Chuck

Knowing how Charlie can be, I don't see this as a huge set back. He will still be out there coaching as much as he can. Our great assistants will step it up and cover. We are thinking of you Charlie.

I am not sure how true this is but ESPN on ABC just said that Charlie will not have surgery??? Because he is not an athlete??? is that true?

I don't know much about tearing your MCL and ACL but why wouldn't you have surgery to repair it? Can it be rehabbed with out surgery?

Sorry for all the questions.

Technically you can not have surgery after tearing both. The knee will just be unstable but that can be decreased by strenthening the quads and hammies. Though you still run the risk of the femur moving too much on the tibia. Surgery is usually the recommended course because the graft usually is stronger than the original ligament.

Yeah with something like that you're better off getting the surgery. Though it does not need to be done right away. I've seen kids who waited til break during college to get their surgery and they were able to do a full squat, with no weight, and walk with no crutches .

Recently I tore my ACL and shredded the meniscus and I had surgery July 2nd. Weis can put surgery off for a while but he will have to have it. With the ACL you can walk around pretty good but adding the MCL into the mix will make it tougher to walk b/c it will be unstable. There are really so many different ways to approach this procedure. After seeing it I knew right away that both of those were tore, but I believe his meniscus is tore also, which makes it even worse. Weis will have to rehab the knee to keep from injurying it worse while putting off surgery. Generally putting off surgery only makes your productivity in life go down and later on down the road your almost guaranteed a knee replacement, which are good for about 15 years. Rehab will help get him through the season and surgery will likely be more successful. That was all day tough staying out there, I admire him for that.

No doubt Coach. Charlie is one guy I'd love to see walk into the clinic while I'm doing my clinicals.

He was tough as hell, didn't whine about the pain, and stayed out there for the whole game. That had to be noticed by the players! I also heard he would have surgery by Tuesday.

Get well soon Charlie. That injury looked horrible when it happened and I didn't think there was any chance he'd be out there for the second half...but there he was, moving around in the pouring rain as if nothing was wrong. I'm glad that we had so many recruits out there to see that our coach is one tough S.O.B.

Very well put sportallyr, who wouldn't want to play for a man that would stay out there through the rain and pain. I also like the message it sends to the players. Obviously you don't want players playing with those types of injuries but players will probably not whine about there little nagging injuries and play through the minor pains that sideline some players.

Hope he watch his weight while he on crutches.

This is kind of random but did you follow his situation with is gastric bypass surgery. He came close to dying, he's one of those few that had major complications. I hope he's able to keep off the weight also, the first time I had knee surgery I gained some major pounds, but when I had my last knee surgery I started dieting the day of surgery and was able to loose weight instead of gaining it, I'm sure he's thought of it.

Just read on ESPN that he is delaying the surgery or possibly not having it at all.

Way to tough it out Charlie. I was very impressed with his poise and ability to focus on the task at hand. You could tell looking at him on the crutches in the driving rain it hurt like a mother to be out there. Set a great example.
