For you eternal optimists

I am going to catch some flack from you eternal optimists who will continue to be optimistic about CW and staff taking this program in the right direction. If progress is measured in taking baby steps, then they are half steps in slow motion. I remember last year many were saying that this year would be a work in progress and the next year in 2009 we would be competing for a national championship. After what has been witnessed so far this year, the bar will have to be lowered for next year and maybe the year after that. I am sorry for the negative attitude. I am frustrated. With the nice paycheck Charlie is receiving, is it okay to expect more at this point in his contract?

Charlie is CLEARLY not head coach material PERIOD! Do I like the guy? Yes. Do wish him and his family the best? Yes. Do I want to see him successful at Notre Dame? Yes. Will he be successful at Notre Dame? Probly not. Since Charlie Weis took over the Notre Dame program he has brought in some pretty damn good players if you ask me and havent beaten a "Quality" opponent EVER!!!!! I'm sorry its flat out the truth. He is a lame head coach at best and I think he should take a very long look in the mirror and make some serious changes VERY SOON. He keeps doing what he's doing now which aint shit if you ask me then he may be canned.

Canned I say??? Yeah canned/Fired. Here's why: CUZ NOTRE DAME DONT GIVE A FUCK! They dont care about Charlie Weis contract, They dont care about his special needs child or his family for that matter. They dont care about his weight problem. They care about wins and National Championships and thats it.

NOTRE DAME JUST DONT GIVE A FUCK because Notre Dame is raw like that. They're soldiers and just keep playing around Charlie and he will find himself right where Bob Davie and Tyron Willingam are. Notre Dame has the money and wont think twice about getting someone in here who is a Head Coach and who wins and who doesnt blow leads and who will come in here and just fucking smack teams in the mouth!!!!!! Charlie has yet to do that. Whatever happened to that NASTY football team he was talking about? Where has that been? I havent seen it.

OUT!

Maybe he will be around a long time and maybe not. But no matter what happens, we are MUCH better off for having Charlie here and the recruits he brought in then we have been since Holtz.

So, if he does go, the next guy coming in will not have the "bare cupboard" that Charlie walked into.

I am one of those eternal optimists, but I still see your point. I believe some of the play-calling this year has been sketchy at best.

However, recruiting is certainly no small factor, and the recruiting has been VERY good with Weis.

Will he ever turn that recruiting into quality wins? I don't know, but I certainly like to think so (re: that "eternal optimist" thing).

As much as losses like this past week cut me to the soul, I still have to be a holdout when it comes to saying Weis won't ever make it at ND.

I just hope some validation of that faith is forthcoming sometime soon.

Guys,
Here is some reality.
One, Charlie is NOT getting fired after this year. He is going to end up with 7-8 wins which is bigg improvement over last season.
Second, he is assembling another really top notch recruiting class.
Third, 2009 is the year everyone expects him to take ND back to the BCS. All the skill guys will have experience. He will have a very experienced OL. The schedule is set up for success.
Finally, and this is for all you fire Charlie buffs. IF and I mean IF Charlie does not take ND back to the BCS in 2009. This does not mean he has to go undefeated, but 10 wins is pretty much a must looking at our schedule. So, if he ends up with a 7-8 win season, you will most likely get your wish for a new coach. If this unfortunately happens, there is one good piece of news. ND will have many interested coaches because unlike TY, Charlie has filled the cupboard with lots of talent and has the recruiting machine in overdrive.
Let's all hope victory is ahead in 2009 and we can celebrate a great season. Go IRISH

I hear lots of criticism, but no real answers.
What's the solution??

Who are we gonna get to coach at ND? Besides Saban, Meyer, and Richt (ugh, except the latter), who is the difference maker out there that wants to come here? George O'Leary? Ty? Harbaugh?
The answer is CW is prolly the best we could get, and we're probably damn lucky to have him. He has cred to recruits. Does he need to improve....yes. He has done that.
He went to Vtech.........our KOR team rocks
He got CB and TENUTA!.....our D is better
He adjusted the playcalling........jury still out
He's willing to adjust and get better, it just takes time. I do think, that next year is about all the time he can/should expect.

Stoney,
Great post!!!! I would agree with you totally. I also ask those, "Fire Charlie" fans. Who is the answer??? Ask yourself, who is gonna come running to South Bend??
Further, I agree that Charlie has shown a great deal of willingness to change. He has put aside his ego to make major attempts at improvement. We begged Ty to change and he did nothing but stand there in his stoic lack of emotion pose.
Finally, listen to the way Charlie answers questions about whey a play, formation or certain situation did not work. He is soo thorough in details of the game. You feel his understanding of the game. So many coaches give you the standard, our players need to execute the plays, blah blah blah. Charlie explains exactly why he calls a play based on defensive set, field position, tendancies. He does not guess.
