Yep, another Saturday, another litany of reasons why Charlie Weis should take Rick Minter and Darius Walker and drop them off blind-folded and hog-tied in downtown Tijuana at 2am local time.

Walker continued to look slower than frozen molasses in January on a diet of Big Macs, with a paltry 5.2 yards-per-carry. Pathetic. Aldridge's 2.4 yards-per-carry looked much more impressive. BENCH WALKER!!!!!1!

And Rick Minter's defense continues to suck wind, allowing Navy to absolutely EXPLODE on us for 14 points. No, that's not a typo. That's a 1, followed by a 4. 14!!! What's next, Army scoring 17? We might as well just not even bother to play defense if we're going to give up such a staggeringly high amount of points. How in the HELL did we manage to win a game in which our defense gave up 14 points? And don't bother pointing out that we pitched a shut-out in the 2nd half. That's just looking for a silver lining in a hurricane. FIRE MINTER!!!!!1!

With all fairness to Aldridge he did it with the second string line and he was the only option so Navy just keyed in on him.

Don't worry, I ain't slaggin' Aldridge. Kid is gonna be a STAR. But from the comments in the gameday thread earlier today, you'd think that those yards-per-carry numbers were reversed.

for a second there, when I just saw the subject heading, I thought you were serious. I was in the process of thinking up a scathing reply when I started reading what you actually wrote.

And on a slightly related topic, and this is no knock on darius at all, I wish Travis Thomas would get a few more carries. I really think he's a darn good running back. I think he's a better RB than LB. What does anyone else think about this?

For the couple of carries TT got, he certainly reminded me of how good he was last year. I still think DWalk is a better all-around back, but I think Thomas is faster and stronger. It's really unfortunate that people don't play both ways all the time anymore. TT clearly has the skill set.

Like Weis said at the beginning of the year, he's one of the best 22 players on the team. They have to find a way to get him on the field. He is definitely a better RB than LB. However, we already have a very solid back in Walker. TT fits in at linebacker where we would be hopeless otherwise. Overall, I think it was a very good move. If that means he isn't going to get offensive carries, so be it. But, as shown today, he's still got the skills to play on offense. What'll be interesting is, if he goes pro, what does he play? I could see him being a very good Denver-style back, which is coincidently where RPN plays. Reunion?

Hopefully...maybe sprinkle in some Prince and we will be seeing the future of the Irish backfield...and it looks very solid!

Aldridge and Prince had great high school press clippings and great potential and I can't recall more complaining about the starter who has now moved up to 5 or 6 on the All-Time Rushing List while screaming for a pair of guys who seemed to get tackled in the ND backfield almost as much as they get tackled on the other side of scrimmage (together they're averaging 2.7 yds/carry).

I have seen a lot of ND backs play in garbage time as freshman but don't recall any tandem getting so much acclaim while accomplishing so little with their opportunity. Nor do I recall such vituperative complaints about sitting an All-Time Rusher to let the scrubs run for miniscule yardage.

You used to have to earn your PT at ND.

Regardles you have to make the trip and dress if you want to play.

Remember this gem for next September as that's essentially the OLine that he's going to be running behind next year as the First String.

Yeah but I would hope that we would at least throw the ball a couple times a game to keep the defense honest.

Think about how much more Walker does than run the ball. He leads the team in receptions he is a pretty good blocker and he always seems to get open when Quinn is in trouble. I agree he isnt the greatest runner but to even think about benching someone that has been in the system this long for someone who has played maybe a quarter would be stupid. Walker is very underrated IMO, running isnt a running back only job.

Nobody getting fired or will be sitting down. Why would Charlie fire Minter, with him not getting a chance to coach the players he drafted. Until then he's not letting anybody go.

very true. and did RPN actually make Denver's team? I thought he'd been cut? or is he on the PS?

and this is just a question, I don't think it should really happen. Does anyone think TT playing LB is hurting his NFL potential if in fact he'd be better off as a RB in the NFL? Again, I'm not saying that he should switch back b/c we definitely need him at LB.

This was funny. You beat me to it, I too was going to start a sarcastic "the sky is falling" thread that pops up on here every Saturday during half time of the game.

I guess I can go start a chicken little thread over on the recuriting forum about how we didn't land any verbals this weekend, EVEN WITH the blowout of Navy.

I haven't been on the board since before the game. I think Vince's post is the only one I need to read. Judging by your sarcasm, I'm guessing yesterday was more of the same old crap. Good work, sir. Good work.

About the only thing funnier than your thread is that half the replies think you are being serious and the other half think you are being sarcastic. Both sides have a point.

Half and half? By any chance, do you sell the same poll data with different conclusions to both the DNC and RNC?

One poster noted nobody was being fired. Did Minter even get mentioned again other than in Vince's facetious parody on the gameday thread?

The comments on the ball carriers were more about situations (garbage time, obvious play calls, playing behind the scrub line, potential stars) not about demoting or promoting a particular player. There was a comment or two on Travis Thomas who didn't even make it into Vince's opening post. It was more of an aside, than picking a side.

Sarcasm doesn't make the D any less porous. That isn't just the delusion of the jumper contingent- the eyeball test tells us it's a bad D.

The eyeball test tells us we held Navy to 14 points and absolutely shut them down after their 2nd touchdown.

The only thing "porous" here is your understanding of that word.

Second half shutout and the team did not punt the entire game.

Darius Walker knows this offense better than any running back on the team and the only guy on the field that probably knows it better is Quinn.

7-1. Some of you are a bunch of bleeing twats the way you talk.

No, it's not a delusion of the jumper contingent, it's PMS by the jumper contingent.

Yea you're right. Navy rushed for, what, 250, 300 yards? I guess that means WVU would only rush for 600 on us. That's not so bad. I'll quit my whining.

Here's a hint, Clotho: if you want to toss numbers around, you might want to start looking up some statistics to back it up. Here's a good place to start:
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/stats

According to the chart for team rushing offense, Navy is #2 in the country averaging 311 rushing yards per game.

#1 is West Virginia with... wait for it... 319 rushing yards per game.

So let me get this straight, Clotho... West Virginia averages 8 more rushing yards per game than Navy, which translates into West Virginia rushing for twice the yardage of Navy against us. Sorry, but the math doesn't work like that.

I don't often do this, but if you don't do your homework, Clotho, prepare to get schooled. Negative rep for you.
