I feel so bad about his situation.

I wonder if Weis and Quinn can pressure Crennel to talk to Savage about bringing him on.

-------At least he can come back and get his degree. If Romeo didn't take Brady with the 3rd pick I doubt he's concerned about doing Weis any favors.

This isn't the buddy system. You need to make it on your own.

If DW can't cut it, he should just come back and finish his degree out. Leaving early was a stupid move.

I agree with you that it was a stupid move to leave early but he had no choice. He would have had very limited playing time with the irish next year which would have lowered his draft stock even more. i'm sure he will bounce back. i wish him the best.

He had a choice...c'mon. If he was not going to see play time as a senior over a couple Sophomores, then he's not good enough to hack it in the NFL. The NFL is the ELITE. The best of the best.

He shoulda waited on his degree...it's that simple. Now he has no NFL job and no degree.

I hope he finds a spot on some team somewhere...but if he does not, he should just return and finish out his degree. Maybe in 2008?

Irishdan,
You hit the nail on the head!!! Darius looked at what 2008 looked like and knew he had to make a move. He had a good final game at LSU and a solid junior campaign. The reality is he was a good college back with above average hands. Further, he benefited from playing in a situation with NO competition for his time. In 2008 he was going to see his time most likely cut in half. Thomas, Aldridge, and Allen were going to take serious amount of DW's playing time. He is a prime example of how thin our talent ranks have been over the last couple years. We have no talent to challenge the starters. Times are a changing though.

He wouldn't have had "very limited playing time," he would still be the starter if he came back. I just hope he makes it somewhere.

----Yeah he would've still be "The guy", but I think moving on to our other RB's is a step in the right direction. It's a bad sign when your #1 running play is the draw. We needed a new and different type of RB back there, but Darius got it done the way his style fit for the time being.

I think that is good news for the future of our RB situation if DW felt threatened enough to leave.

I'm a little surprised that he was released so early. At least he will have plenty of time to latch on with another team.

I hate Darius's situation. He probably was a little worried about playing time so I'd say that was one of his deciding factors. Whatever he does and wherever he goes, I wish him the best and I'm sure he will be succesful at whatever he decides to do.

-----I understand why he left when he did though. He had the game of his life against LSU's top defense and knew EVERYBODY was leaving next year so he was striking while the iron was hot, I don't blame him. I didn't think he'd go undrafted and now it's easy to point the finger and call him a dumbass, but at the time he thought it was now or never because of the circumstances. He was never an NFL caliber back and I think everybody knew that.

Best of luck to DW. I am pretty sure he will find another team and make a roster.

I'm glad he gets another chance. At least now, he should have a few preseason games to play in and compete.

If he doesn't make it in the NFL, which is a good chance, he did win that lawsuit years back. He should still have some of that money left.
