They are well-coached, and are even outrecruiting Notre Dame at the moment.

And remember, they beat Oregon State, who beat you know who.

And don't forget what they did to USC last year.

I could see it in the eyes of the players at the end of the game...they are looking ahead to the Orange Bowl.

Who would they be looking ahead to?

I think the Irish will be ready to play, it would be a good win going into to Chapel Hill. Looking forward to Saturday.

who's overlooking them?

One example of overlooking a team is Coachjohnson's response. He said it would be a good win going into to Chapel Hill. That is my definition of overlooking a team. J/K I am scared poopless about the Stanford game. Eff NC. I am most worried about the Willingham game, I mean Washington game. Even though they lost their QB, they still can knock the shit out of your best man.

hopefully none of US is overlooking anyone. i have done it in the past, hell remember when we beat FSU and then lost to stanford and it cost us a shot at the NC? i overlooked stanford that day, and wont do it again as when i have overlooked a team and then they pull the upset it is just that much harder to deal with.

that and for some reason i programmed to worry otherwise i feel as though we wont do well.

ND is not overlooking anyone. were they overlooking MSU to get to Purdue, no. i expect this team to continue to build and having a 2nd half like they did against Purdue will really help their confidence going into Stanford. i believe they are finding their identity.

whats with this guy?? ndftbl you are my bro but come on relax a bit with this don't get too excited talk, believe me ND and CW are fully aware of the threat that stanford poses, we will beat them, i think it will be similar to last saturday, they makke it interesting for the first half and then we'll just pull away, i do not think they will ever have a lead on us this week tho.

I think this season has proven that NO ONE is good enough to over look anyone this season. Florida and USC can attest.

I believe they will come out ready to play against Stanford. At least, I hope so. My newborn Son from this past Sunday (9/28/08) will be watching his first Notre Dame game with his Daddy and it'll be this Saturday against Stanford. Gunnar James says "Go Irish!" :)

And Wisconsin (losing a 19 pt. lead to frickin' scUM, damn!) and Wake Forest and East Carolina and Clemson ....

Thank you Sir! We wanted something that sounded like a rockstar, so we went with Gunnar James.

I guess in retrospect, we could have gone with Braxton Cave too... :)

I am feeling pretty good about the Stanford game. Only one thing is on my mind right now, the fans. At the Michigan game everybody was going crazy, and was loud nearly every play. At the Purdue game (I was in the same section) there was barely anything. Not a lot of people were jumping up on big plays, and third downs it was us and a few people around being loud, etc. Hopefully the fans can show some suport.

I think this game right here is the most important thus far, beating Standford would push us over 3 wins and give us even more confidence.

Rumor has it Stanfords football team had to take a hiatus as they lost funding to the Synchronized Swim Team, but upon guaranteeing the fans 100% reimbursement if not happy with the football team's performance, they were able to raise the funds to bring back the team.

i stand corrected, i had to look it up because i was convinced it was stanford but it turns out the horrible loss to stanford was 1990 when we were number 1.

btw i found a GREAT site in my search for the year we overlooked stanford, Notre Dame Football Database

that was still a tough one and i remember feeling sick about it.

A reason not to expect to walk through Stanford is their Coach Jim Harbaugh. He will do a great job at getting his team not to fall into the Notre Dame " mystic" . Every team we play against, always considers it as the big game of the year. I can speak from personal experience that opponents will try all there trick plays, fakes, and any other thing they can exploit. This week will be no different, but the Irish will prevail due to special teams and defense.

While I agree that Stanford will not be a pushover, it is hard to say which team will show up. I watched them play Oregon St. and they looked pretty good. Then I watched them play ASU and. . . not so much.

I guess the same could be said for the Irish, but I think that we are starting to get a little swagger now and are playing great at home. If we can start the game like we started the 3rd qtr against Purdue, we will be fine.

Two questions for you relating to your playing days:

1. Where was your least favorite place (stadium) to play?
2. What was the team that gave you the most trouble? Maybe not necessarily in the outcome, but as a kicker who got you nervous the most?

My least favorite place to play in was Ohio State Stadium in 1995. The tunnel that lead from our locker room to the field went under the student section. I had about 5 large cups of beer thrown at me just going to warm up. It was our first game in 65 years. It was also by far the loudest. They added extra bleachers to close off the horse shoe.
Other than Notre Dame, Washington has a beautiful open end zone which opened up to a bay, and about 100 boaters
The worst team as far as there talking**** was USC in 1995. Keyshawn Johnson came out while I was warming up. He sent his regards to my mom and everyone else I have ever met. He didn't say much after the game.
The worst place to kick as far as field conditions was ours.
I was never as nervous as my first kickoff as a true freshman vs. Northwestern. The referee hands me the ball to kickoff and he asked "why I was shaking so much".
The first practice I see coach Holtz coming up on his golf cart. That will get your butterflies going.

That is awesome! Great stories! Thanks for the insight! I could listen to stories from former players all day. I remember that '95 game against USC. Keyshawn did know how to yap didn't he? Thanks again for the great info!!!
