Since we didn't get enough Defensive talent this year it's time to see who is the best ones in this class. Who are they? I can only think of one and its Filer who I think is a silent commit and will be Irish right after signing day. And thats about it.

I can't offer much on the hs junior class, but i do know that the '08 class better be the best one we've had in years. Much work to do!

I hope your right about Filer but I don't think he's a silent commit.

Little Poz, Brett Nagel, Nolan Brewster, and Braxton Cave if he ends up playing DT/NT would be a great start in my book it ND could manage that. Brewster will be really hard though, it seems like everyone in the country is after him.

Will Hill has an offer but I'm not sure what he ends up as. In HS he players as a QB and Safety but the kid is a dynamic athlete that can be anything from a CB, S, WR to staying a QB (though I doubt he stays a QB).

DT Sean Cwynar from Illinois has an offer as does LB David Posluszny.

There are some others but there not coming to mind.

Last year at this time, Texas had nearly a full class lined up. We should have a ton of offers out for defensive prospects right now, but I think we have about 3 or 4 out, and twice that number for offense. I really hope we learned some lessons about defensive recruiting this year and don't make the same mistakes again.

You have not seen that many offers for defense yet because quite simply CW knew he was making a coordinator change. he owed that to Corwin Brown to allow him to recommend those he wanted. I am sure we will not wait long though. He pulled the trigger pretty quickly on brian Smith and I think he move quickly for the 08 class.

big one I would like to get early is Steve Filer from Chicago. LB that will be a force from early on in college.

Chicago Sun Times today, 2-2-07, has a Filer article basically stating he will see how the recruiting plays out. Everyone, including ND is currently equal. In the article he makes a statement that he "wants to be the best linebacker in Illinois". That kind of determination bodes well for the Irish if Brown and Weis can recruit him for the new D.

thank you, thank you it was driving me nuts because I couldn't remember Nolan Brewster's name. I forgot about Cave because it could go either way OL or DT.

That's all I need to see on defense. The last two years drove me crazy, seeing guy's stuck in the mud playing defense.

I understand all that, but the rest of the nation isn't going to wait because we got a new DC. Just the fact that we aren't in the game early makes me nervous. This year's D recruiting drove me nuts, and I don't want to see the same thing happen. I don't think it will, but I'd feel much better to see a bunch of D offers to some top notch talent.

I agree but they need to be guys that can tackle as well. This past season the ND defense was terrible because most couldn't keep up and the tackling was terrible.

ND has offered more than that already. Go look at the '08 profiles, plus I'm sure more have been offered that we haven't heard about yet, and I know of several more that will probably be offered soon.

I just hope we get some players on the defensive side of ball. I just want some good players that know how to play defensive. Not ones that switch from RB or OL.
