Current Recruiting Status

On the "Trattou is Irish" thread - Svo suggested that right now we are probably third behind Texas and Florida. It is obvious that currently Texas would be #1 as their class has to be almost full by now with 19 commits. They have some quality players, but with the national championship as their big playing card, is anyone else surprised that they filled up their class as fast as they did? They have a couple of 5 stars, but realistically most of the big boys are still undecided at this point. I would have thought they would have a shot with a number of the guys that are still out if they had not filled so fast. Do you think this strategy may come back to bite them in the end?

Not at all.

They have 19 recruits right now and got 3 of the 27 Rivals 5 Star recruits. On Scout, they only have one 5 star guy, but he was not picked as a 5 Star on Rivals. If you think about how large Texas is, they have 17 of their 19 recruits from in state.

These kids are the creme of the crop in Texas, grew up as Texas fans and most committed on the spot. They bleed Longhorn orange and would run through walls for Mack Brown. On top of it, they are all big time athletes.

The other two non-Texas prospects were cherry picked from Florida (best QB in the state) and Arkansas (best TE in the state, former HS teammate of Bartley Webb). They have a couple scholarships left and they probably will only take high 4 or 5 star players, probably cherry picking the best out of other states.

Texas is a machine right now.

Some people don't agree(ie flavarsity.com) that Brantley is the best QB in the state.

I do though.

Well, recruiting is pretty much personal preference. Those on FLAVarsity are also very pissed at Brantley for leaving the state and going to Texas in the first place. If he had stayed home at Florida, he would be Mr. Worldbeater, #1 QB in the land. Pfft.
