Jamie Cumbie gave a verbal commitment to Clemson. They recruited him as a tight end even though Cumbie would prefer to play defensive end.

Cumbie was not even recruited by Clemson until his coach Dan Darlington sent Tommy Bowden a tape. Only then did they make him an offer. Strange that he grew up near Myrtle Beach and has been a Clemson fan since he was a little kid.

At this point, it is only a verbal and he could end up pursuing a career in Major League Baseball, but I think it makes getting Ryan away from Boston College that much more important now.

His choice of Clemson does have a lot of people surprised. A lot of the locals didn't expect him to go with his heart.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Clemson more known as a powerhouse in baseball? Could have been the determining factor. :whoknows:

They're very good.

He grew up cheering for them because he's from South Carolina. I think that was the ultimate factor.

Ah well, good luck to the kid. Obviously would've liked to see him in south bend, but its nice to see him commit the school he grew up watching. At least he commited early so Weis doesn't have to waste any more time on him.

Cheers to that note as well. I'd rather recruits are straight-forward and up front with everyone involved from the beginning.
