For the Sox fans...I think I heard they were trading Jon Garland too. KW must like his pitching depth to be trading 2/5 of the rotation.

enough of the white sox. they'll be good no matter because of their manager.

back to the cubbies. zito may be overrated, but his curve ball would be nasty in wrigley. especially when the wind is blowing OUT. that extra movement he would get with the wind in his face, incredible. the cubs do this cycling thing every few years. they tried to go the speed route the past couple of years, but they never realized that their manager Baker had no idea how to use a speedy lineup. that was a good move on getting those players but a bad job implementing the strategy by baker. now they're going back to buying bats. i can't say i wholeheartedly agree, but more runs will be scored. plus, ramirez is a better hitter when he's not the lone bat.

the biggest mistake the cubs made was hiring pinella. i still can't believe they passed on girardi. anytime you have the opportunity to get a manager that makes your team exponentially better than their individual players, you snag that guy (just like guillen and la russa). the cubs will be better this year, but they still won't be good enough to win it all. and i'm a life-long cubs fan too.

Ok, I think KW is a good GM...but you can't like the Garcia move. For what pitchers are going for this year in free agency, you would think he could have gotten a lot more for a 17 game winner last year.

I am not upset with the Cubs paid Lilly. Unfortunately, that is what the pitchers are going for this offseason. I don't think Hendry is one of the best GM's in baseball...but I wouldn't put him the 5 worst! Hell, Padilla went for 11 million a year and Meche is close to getting that as well. Zito is going to break the bank.

You're damn right I can like it. He's signed through 2007. Adios. His money is off the books and they got two very young, very talented pitchers in return. Garcia was a 17 game winner with a 4.50 ERA....thank you offense.

Jim Hendry is a total moron.

jigga, what did you want the Chubs to do? Can't pretend you can roll Prior and Wood out in your rotation and everything will work out. I like the offseason moves so far. Soriano while grossly overpaid was the top position player in free agency. Lilly is a solid (all be rather average) MLB starting pitcher. They've added a couple of good sticks off the bench. Problem is they have to aquire free agents to fill the holes if they want to compete this year, and free agency is what it is which is overpaying for average to slightly above average talent. Add another starting pitcher and an outfielder, and with some better luck with health...maybe just maybe you have a respectable team

Doesn't hurt that 83 games won the division last year and St Louis and Houston have a lot of holes to fill as well. I like the cubbies chances to atleast make the playoffs

Wow does Jigga have some serious hate toward the Cubs, its like he's nervous that we might take out his over rated White Sox. I'll take Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez over Konerko,Thome, and Dye anyday of the week. It sure won't be that tough seeing as the Cards only had to put up 83 wins last year to take the division
