Coaching Staff adjustments

I think we will see CW back next year. Based on that assumption, hopefully he will see his staff needs some changes or our new AD makes that suggestion.

Here is my thoughts. Of course all of this could change is some gets a HC offer or offer to become a co ordinator.

OL - Latina. The line has been a problem for 3 years now. No running game
Same penalties. JC not getting sacked as much is not a sign of improvement on their
part. OUT

Asst. HC/Linbackers - Tenuta. I think helped the D improve this year and can't wait to see
what he does next year. STAY

DC - Brown. I think he and Tenuta are a good package. STAY

OC - Haywood. Not sure on this one. Love him because he is an ND guy, but he might be
in over his head as an OC. Maybe he improves next year. I thin it was a mistake to
turn the play calling completely over to him. I think CW should have had the right
to veto the play he call. Also, the RB were better this year, but getting that tough
yard was not their forte. I know the line has a lot to do with that, but sometimes you
just have to have the will to get it done. NOT SURE

DL - Oliver. Another one I am not sure of. Maybe if he had more players and better
players he would be alright. NOT SURE leaning towards OUT

Rob Ianello - just on his recruiting alone he is a positive, plus the WR were much better
this year STAY

Bernie Parmelee. Our tight ends have been productive. STAY

Brian Polian. Special teams have been so/so. OUT

Ron Powlus. Loves ND, but not sure I want him mentoring QB's Is there another spot for
him? NOT SURE

Ruben Mendoza. I wonder if some of our second half collapses is part conditioning? OUT

I really have no specific person in mind as replacements, but if there is quality person with a tie to ND we should get them. If someone like Zorich, Junior Bryant, Aaron Taylor or Andy Heck can join this staff it would be an improvement. I think if CW can make adjustment to his staff, he could get back to winning as he did in 05 and 06.

Our special teams is so/so??????

Our special teams is the best part of our team. Our kick coverage is one of the top 5 in all of college football.

This year they have been an improvement, but what happens when some of the seniors who are on ST graduate. Plus let face it our punter and kicker have not had their best years. Maybe they just need their own coach. This part of the team just worries me.

I think the only one that's out is Haywood. I lik the fact that he is an ND guy but someone has to take the blame for the poor offensive production and it will not be Weis.

Latina- Stays because he has a young Offensive line and a lot of the problems before were because the RBs did not pick up the blitzes.

Oliver- in my opinion has done what he could with what he had. Let's be realistic he hasn't had much to work with.

Ianello- Great Job, young ply makers.

Brown- DB's look great!

Tenuta- Keep on blitzing!!

Polian- Will be back! He didn't have much to work with either. Special teams have improved!

Powlus- I have no idea how good of a coach he is. JC has improved somewhat!

Mendoza- He has gotten these guys in great shape for everygame!

Charlie Weis needs to bring in an OC that knows his offense. One that can light a fire under the Offenses butt and whoop em into mental shape!!!!!!!!!

the offensive line is atrocious. there were 2 players on that line yesterday that needed to be sat down for lack of effort. that is a shame and cannot happen, if these other kids on the bench cant be brought in then he is not doing a good job. if they can go through a week of practice and not be fired up going into the game he is not doing his job. practice should be harder than the games.. watching how they play on saturday i have to wonder if they even wear pads during the week.

when was the last time we returned a kick for a td? i dont remember but it sure has been few and far between. zbikowski rings a bell to me a couple years ago. there was a time that kickoff returns and punt returns were the most fun plays of the game because you always felt that one could/would get broken. i dont blame the returners as much as i do the blockers, you have to block well on returns to have success and we have not done that in a few years.

Polian's biggest asset is not his coaching of special teams... Weis likes him because he delivers
5 star recruits from Califorina... Evans, Woods, Crist etc... Polian is our Calf. connection.

Latina and Haywood need to be out.

But I think there's no way that Oliver should leave. The three years before this one, our best defensive player was arguably on the d-line. Last year it was Laws, the year before it was Landri, and before that it was Abiamiri. It could be argued that Kuntz is our second best d player this year. I think this year the D-line is struggling because our talented d-lineman are young and our experienced d-linemen are 2 and 3 star players.

I think Oliver has been shorthanded. I think we need more D-lineman and we need to develop the talent of what we have. We need to come up with some type of rotation so the playmakers on the D line a as fresh as can be in the fourth quarter or at least when the game is on the line.

Brian Kelley! Or have him as Head Coach would be better!

He has been doing wonders down in Cincy. Wouldn't mind seeing him joining the staff. Hey NDOM.. do you follow Western at all since you are GR?

Seriously? How much of a chance does he need? Our OL has been subpar his entire tenure, even when it was almost all seniors in 2006. Does anyone honestly think Latina has done anything, anything at all, to warrant being on the ND payroll? The line still sucks, sucks hard at times, and he is first in line to take the blame. He can take his cut blocks somewhere else. We need an OL coach to teach these nationally ranked recruits how to block and to have some confidence and attitude. We just had 41 yards rushing against the 107th ranked rush D.

What do you think are the chances Cubit bolts within the next two years? I am almost positive he is the offensive coordinator and the offense is amazing this year.

Its definately possible. He's an amazing offensive guy! It would be great if we could snag him as a new coordinator. I just dont see great talent like that staying with a Mac team.

I think Latina has to be first on the chopping block. For one reason - Sam Young. I am NOT bashing the kid in any way because you don't start every game since you set foot on campus unless you work hard and are tough. But he has not been given the tools to improve and excel. He has played 36 collegiate games and I don't think he has improved at all. He does not dominate like he should. At
6'8" and 330, he should be able to plow a course for the running backs and not allow anyone past him at will. He has not been coached properly and that is why I think Latina should go.

Same example for why Mendoza should go too. Young is HUGE and should be able to dictate the balance for the entire line. Our line is massive and we get blown up regularly. I think a lot of that is strength and the rest of it is coaching.

All the rest can stay in my opinion. Polian has done a great job. Oliver has more talent on the sidelines and more on the way. Ianello does a nice job.

Get rid of Latina and Mendoza! A lot will be resolved there.

You're unbelievable. Latina has a young offensive line? Are you kidding?

That isn't a young offensive line. This is an offensive line that has been atrocious three years running. There was plenty of experience in 2006 and the line still sucked.

All you're doing is reading posts, deciding if there is even a modicum of criticism in said posts and then posting the antithesis in your posts. You don't even bother backing up your thoughts with facts!

I agree that we do not have a "young" offensive line... but... most colleges can redshirt their freshman O Line players and get them an extra year... I believe we have a mid level O Line that still has upside potential...

I'll be a happy camper if we fire Latina. Everyone else can stay. In my opinion, Latina is the only coach whose team has shown no improvement from last year whatsoever. The lack of sacks this year are more attributed to Jimmy making better decisions and not to improved O-line play. Latine must go. Everyone else has one more year to convince me that they belong as a coach at ND.

Haywood, Powlus, and Latina need to go. Our offense is looking to much like the 2007 offense. The offensive line just plain sucks- last year they could not block for pash rushing and now this year they cannot block when we run the ball, we need a consistent line. I wasn't that impressed w/ Powlus as a QB at Notre Dame, Clausen deserves a better QB coach.
