for those who haven't seen the ESPN chat with Tom Lemming...i read it and found this

Jim (sf): Any new news on what coaches ND will hire?

Tom Lemming: All I know is what I've read. The former Ole Miss coach David Cutcliffe is rumored to have already been hired and John Pitino, also from Miss. They were looking at Mike Haywood from TExas, Tim Brewster from the San Diego Chargers, Andy Heck from Jaguars, Pepper Johnson from the Pats and Rob Ianello from Wisconsin. Several other names along with these have been mentioned ... none have been confirmed and I doubt if any will be announced until after the holidays.

Tom Lemming: So, let the speculation begin!

So i did a little research on these guys who i have never heard of and this is who they are

Tim Brewster
Assistant Head Coach - Tight Ends
3rd NFL Season
3rd with Chargers

Andy Heck
Offensive Assistant
ND Alum from 88 Championship team/Played TE and Tackle position

Pepper Johnson
Defensive Line Coach/Patriots

Rob Ianello
Tight Ends Coach/Wisconsin
also was Recruiting Coordinator and receivers coach at Arizona

So that sounds good. Weiss is going about his business like a pro...my only concern is that in this news there is little emphasis on defense...i know however that this is all still merely speculation, and the defense news might not have been leaked...

I know Pepper Johnson is thought well of around N.E. for his defensive mind. That would be a really nice pickup if he'd wanna come to South Bend as a positions coach. Besides, anyone on the defensive side of the ball who coached under Belichek that Charlie could take with him from New England has to be a pretty good sign for the defense.

I really hope that doesn't come up. Guaranteed it does. I think we, as fans, have much more to worry about. Interview and hire objectively. That's all you can ask. Give viable candidates a chance.

Remember in Wildcats when Goldie Hawn coached a high school team in Chicago? Whoever made that movie must have had some foresight....

Weis is putting together a nice staff, hopefully he won't be so attached to his assistants like TY was. Sometimes you need to drop assistants when their not doing a good job.................
