Clausen's Dad: Not So Fast

Jimmy Clausen will arrive in South Bend tonight. We'll see what ends up happening.

"S.C. had to play catch up in the way Charlie Weis has recruited this kid," Jim Clausen said. "Charlie stepped out and said, 'I'm going to recruit you. You're the guy I want.' At S.C., Pete Carroll is now saying some of the same things.

Mike Paulus is visiting USC this weekend and many are confident that he'll receive an offer at that time.

Read into this what you will, but ND and SC have offered one QB: Clausen.

We'll see how it unfolds, but the various reports that SC will offer Paulus could signify that they may know the outcome of this already.

We'll see how it plays out.

Will Jimmy Clausen commit to Notre Dame this weekend?

More so than the outcome of Saturday's Blue-Gold Game, the major intrigue of the weekend seems to be whether Clausen, the nation's top-rated quarterback, will commit to Notre Dame this weekend while on an unofficial visit.

"It's my opinion that Clausen will commit to Notre Dame this weekend," said CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. "This is his third trip (to Notre Dame). He's seen all that he needs to see about Notre Dame and I think he's going to get it done this weekend so he can work on some of the other All-Americans that are coming."


The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Clausen, a junior at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., is the younger brother of former Tennessee quarterbacks Casey and Rick Clausen. Jimmy Clausen has narrowed his list to Notre Dame and USC.

He threw for 2,778 yards and 30 touchdowns last year. As a sophomore, Clausen tossed 58 touchdowns.

Clausen is the only quarterback Notre Dame has offered a scholarship among the players in the current recruiting cycle. Syracuse, N.Y., standout Mike Paulus, the brother of Duke point guard Greg Paulus, is interested in Notre Dame.

"Paulus wants to go to Notre Dame and Notre Dame I'm sure has relayed that message to Clausen," Lemming said. "They can't wait forever."

I think this goes back to Paulus taking the trip to SC this weekend. Here's a bit more from a Rivals article by Jeremy Crabtree:

One of the biggest things that have turned the Clausen's on to the Irish is Charlie Weis himself. Weis has been personally involved with recruiting Clausen and word is his family has built a very special bond with Weis, who owns four Super Bowl rings and is known as one of the best offensive minds in football.

That doesn't sound like Hollywood and Heismans to me. Too little, too late for Carroll maybe?
