So we all know that when Clausen is used as a decoy the Irish run the Wildcat offense. I am not a fan of the wildcat offense. However I do like using Clausen as a decoy, but why not have Dayne Crist in there at the same time as the QB?? Good idea or bad idea??

All that does is make Clausen a receiver and completely ruins what the wildcat tries to establish and that is to change the running game from 10 on 11 to 10 on 10. I'm saying bad idea, but that is just me. I just don't see the benefit of it.

Then it wouldn't be the wildcat. The wildcat is made for a speedster so the defense has to be ready for a quick run or even possibly a throw. Clausen has to be in there so the defense doesnt have time to prepare for a run most of the time offense.

Irishfan nailed it. In a normal one back offense, you have 9 blockers (11 guys, minus the QB and the guy carrying the ball). This leaves two defenders unaccounted for. In the Wildcat, the QB splits out wide. The DB lined up over the QB is considered "blocked". That means that you now have 10 defenders and 9 blockers (10 guys, minus the guy carrying the ball). So now there is only ONE defender unaccounted for. Putting another QB into the equation would simply negate that advantage, as you would still have two defenders unaccounted for.

Horrendously bad!

Besides negating the Wildcat advantage Irishfan nailed, why in the world would you take Clausen who is not a runner of note with a healthy foot, and put him in jeopardy of taking his turf toe to a season ending injury?

If I'm the PU defender lined up against a split out Clausen, I'm going to to try and destroy him on the snap.
