Christmas Gift Thread

As we are fast approaching that time of the year once again, I thought I'd start a thread discussing Christmas gifts in a broad sense. Soon it will be Christmas gift shopping season, if it has not already started for some. Wanted to know/share what IE members buy for their loved ones, parents, kids, cousins and other siblings. Thought it'd be nice to share some ideas, especially for the last minute folks like me.

I always have difficulty finding the right gifts for the people around me, especially my folks and my sister. Maybe I am thinking too much into this issue but I just don't know what is appropriate at times and struggle with this issue come December. I've done the ND memorabilia thing before, bought all the cheap stuff while I was still a student as well. Plus, I don't want a repetition of the same thing over again.

So here are a set of questions that will jumpstart this thread:

1) What are some of the gifts that you've received in the past that meant a lot to you or you still remember till this day? What gifts that you seem to be getting on an annual basis? (For me it is neckties!)

2) What gifts have you given that seem to leave a lasting impression on the person? And to whom was it given to?

3) On gifts: what is the average amount of money you spend on Christmas gifts in general? What are some gifts that work all or most of the time?

Thought this thread can generate a wealth of knowledge that hopefully all of us can benefit from. As someone who struggles every year with this issue around this time period, I know for sure I can benefit from you input. Thanks in advance to everyone.

My woman bought me a Weber grill. I'm too cheap to buy it for myself and I use it at least four times a week. Great gift.

Disclaimer: She gets dinner out of it every night too, so it could have been purchased for selfish reasons. I'm going to return the favor this year and buy her a great vacuum.

What my family has found that works well is everyone generate a list of their own and distribute it among the family, then communicate with each other to make sure you don't accidentally "double up" on something. I prefer that method as opposed to trying to come up with something on my own unless there is something I have seen that I know for sure they would like. It is the thought that counts too, but who wants a crappy Christmas gift?
