Carlyle Holiday

I hope this guy gets a shot at the NFL. He has a shot at getting drafted if he impresses at the combine. He'll definately at least be picked up as a free agent.

Too bad he couldn't of played wide receiver early on. He was such a class act. Everyone was really bashing him when he was the QB. But he hung in their and became one of my favorites.

Hopefully someone in the NFL takes a good look at him.

yeah, it takes a man to take as much heat as he did and then get booted out of the starting QB spot, and THEN stay on the team and make a transition to another position. eric crouch should have this kind of heart.

I totally agree. What this regime's coaching staff did with this kid was almost criminal.

It's not the staff's fault that Holiday was the wrong QB for this system. I love Carlyle (and I hated the whole Lovecchio debacle), but he was much better as a reciever. And if Arnaz Battle can make it as an NFL WR, then so can Holiday.

I concur on the Arnaz Battle reference. Brady Quinn is the man. Holiday was out of the Davie era and was not the guy to run the offense that Ty was trying to put in place. Quinn under Weis for the next two years ought to be fun. I think that Quinn will make great strides under Weis.

Holiday will end up in a camp somewhere at the very least. I would think that within 7 rounds, someone could draft him. If not, he can go the undrafted free agent route, which is often the way to go since you can research and choose who to sign with based on their needs and your skills. Or you can just be like Eli Manning and have your dad tell teams you won't play there.

willingham's staff deserves a little blame for holiday's college career. granted, holiday didn't fit into a west coast offense at quarterback, but given his athleticism, there was room to get him on the field sooner and more frequently than he did. a guy like weis, who has used linebackers as fullbacks and receivers as defensive backs, would have made better use of holiday's abilities.

Holiday will get a look in camp with somebody. He'll be fine. Hopefully he graduates.

Aerosmith, you've gotta wish the G-Men got Big Ben instead, right? Big Ben was rated ahead of Eli on some scouting reports and that proved correct to this point. Maybe Ben's got better guys around him, but Eli has looked pretty bad. He should be better for it, though. Builds character to get pasted every week.

lol, I haven't given up on Manning yet. I actually didn't like Rothlisburger heading into the draft, so I'm not gonna be a flat leaver and change my mind now. You really can't judge a QB his rookie year anyway. When Denver made that huge deal to land Elway, a lot of people then turned around and roasted them his rookie year b/c Dan Marino was also in that draft class and he was amazing his first season. Looking back on it now though, Elway got 2 rings in Denver while Marino didn't get any, so who would you rather have as your QB? At the very least they turned out to be just about even given time.

Hey don't give up on Manning at all. Give him until the mid point of next season and then start to judge him. He needs at least that to develop, just like Peyton did. He may not be a freak like Big Ben, but he still may end up the better quarterback...we'll know in a few years.

I think he'll be fine. Hopefully there isn't a big brother syndrome that is making him mental. I doubt it, though. He followed Dad at Ole Miss, so he's used to it.

I liked Big Ben when he was in college. Those Thursday night MAC games on ESPN got him a lot of exposure. Miami OH's bowl game last year....what a game. Eli beating Florida twice....great stuff. Did what big bro never could.

With Charlie Weis, Brady Quinn could be right in there with these guys in a few years. It would be nice to have another first round stud QB again.

Holiday could be a Kordell/Randle El type of threat in The League.

i think Eli will do fine eventually. i expected him to struggle, but he's been awful, 4-18 for 27 yards his last game.

LOL...even in his own thread, Carlyle can't get any respect.;)

As for Eli, he'll be good...but they went to him too early. As for Big Ben, he will have a great run until the Steelers meet New England in the AFC Championship game.

Yeah, I agree, the only problem w/ Eli is he was put in too early. Couglin should have waited until they were at least under .500. Oh well though, at least he's getting the experience. I'm not worried. If he's still this bad at the end of next season, then maybe I'll be worried.

And I hope Carlyle finds a place in the NFL too, but I don't know if he gets the press for someone to use a draft pick on him. Definately a great athlete though, so if he gets into camp anywhere he could make a pretty nice find as a kick returner.

Aerosmith hits the nail on the head here. Coughlin botched this up pretty good. 5-4 when Eli took over. 5-9 now. I'll bet the veteran guys on the team are pretty pissed. And Coughlin was considered as an ND candidate years ago? Thanks but no thanks.

Carlyle will be making a living playing football somewhere this time next year. Just a question of what acronym it will be under. Maybe if all else fails Ditka and the Chicago Rush will grab him.

Saw Randle El today when I was watching the Giant vs Pittsburgh game, he had like 5 catches for 120 yards. Randle El was a QB all through college. Maybe Holiday can eventually turn into a Randle El type player. If I were a nfl team I'd really consider drafting Holiday.

I don't think Carlyle will be in the class of a Randle-El, but he can definitley be useful to a team. All he has to do is look at guys like Arnaz & Ron Curry who have made the transition. I hope Holiday does well, but he could go the way of the QB from Clemson (Dantzler). After that one great run-back he had, it seemed that nobody really gave him any other chances to get on the field. I think he tried being a running back, a reciever, a defensive back, and a special teams guy. Pro coaches just don't seem to willing to innovate positions for guys like that. The only guy that seems to get it is Cowher. he brought in Kordell, Hines Ward, and Randle-El...all standout college QBs that were able to make the transition.

I'm confused, Willingham had an offensive system? Spurrier had the fun and gun, Ty has the fumble and stumble.

LOL...I'm probably the biggest Willingham fan around these here parts, but his mishandling of CH was criminal (but it's something Davie was guilty of as well, mind you). I think those "slash"-type players always give coaches problems...but the great coaches work around it.

Holiday did everything that was asked of him.Ty needed to try to go with his strong points.I hope he gets a shot.He is a stand up guy and is what ND should represent. He did what he thought was best for the team.

I think Holiday can become a good 3rd or 4th reciever in the league (like Randle-El or Ron Curry)...but it might take him a few years. Imagine Carlyle in a Denny Green offense. Go 4 wide recievers with Boldin/Fitzgerald on the outside & Holiday and Bryant Johnson in the slots...all they'd need is a decent QB.

He's pretty big and lumbering, lacking the NFL elite speed. I don't know that he can contribute as a receiver. He could catch on with special teams. In the end, he's going to have to get to some speed camps before the combine.

Yeah Holiday does need to improve his speed to be a WR. Also his football instincts aren't very good.

David Givens was able to improve his 40 time and get drafted in the seventh round. Holiday will have to work hard like Givens did.
