Colorado Stud DL Hitting It Off With Cane Coaches
canesport.com

Miami landed a stud Colorado defensive line prospect in 2003 when 6-foot-8 Calais Campbell chose the Canes.

And now another extremely tall and talented Colorado DL is seriously considering the Canes.

Aurora (CO) Regis Jesuit's Butch Lewis, a 6-foot-7, 285-pounder, has Miami in his final 5.

"It's Miami, USC, Georgia, LSU and Notre Dame," he says. "They're all pretty much even right now."

Lewis says he is speaking regularly with UM coaches Art Kehoe and Mario Cristobal.

"They're great guys, I love them," Lewis said. "They both have their own different personalities. I talk 15-20 minutes with them when they call.

"They saw my tapes and said I'm the kind of defensive player they need at Miami, my style of play."

Lewis says he has a tentative early December visit date to Miami.

He says distance won't be a factor in his final decision, and says of UM that "I know it's a private school, a smaller school.

"Growing up, Miami was always my favorite school. I've been watching them a while. Clinton Portis, Ken Dorsey, when Antrel Rolle was there, I was rooting for them."

What's he looking for in a program at the next level?

"The school that's going to benefit me most athletically and academically," he said.

Lewis's team is 6-3 so far this season.

He's playing defensive tackle but projects as an end in college.

Lewis lives near where Campbell grew up.

"I live about 10 minutes away from there," Lewis says.

Lewis never faced Campbell in high school – their teams don't schedule each other.

It looks like Lewis is serious about Miami. With McCoy being lukewarm it looks to me that we are in trouble in the DL area unless someone comes up that we aren't talking about. We have put a lot of emphasis on Lewis and McCoy and it looks to me that we may not get either of them.

I know we can't count on what recruits are saying because they seem to like everybody during the process and I know what a great salesman Weis is but,to me, these 2 are leaning away from ND.

Not to fear Big Don.

I think McCoy and Lewis are strong candidates to become Irish.

I'm familiar with this process and deal with it almost on a weekly basis. The number one thing is to stay in touch with these guys and let them take their visits. Once they visit you, there isn't much you can do but stay in contact.

I think both these guys liked ND and there is a good chance for both, if not one.
