Butch Davis?

On ESPN's Insider rumor page there is an article concerning Butch Davis as a possible candidate for the job. More than likely this is more of the same grasping at straws as practically every sports writer in the country is doing at the moment, but has anyone read the article? What about Butch Davis? Any thoughts?

I think that the media is throwing you know what at the wall and seeing what sticks. But I would not be too upset with Davis getting the job. He has recruited very well at UNC , and even stolen a recruit or two away from us. I don't particularly like him but he has the pedigree and head coaching resume that would make him an OK pick.

He did a great job at Miami BECAUSE he was able to bring in ANYONE who could play...give him credit...he was alllowed to do it, did it, and left. Crazyiness resurfaced after he left.

At UNC, held to higher academic standards...recruiting OK to well...not winning as much as hoped.

Would be a HUGE disaster here!!!

Davis recruited one of the top 10 classes to UNC last year.

I doubt that had ever happened in their program's history.

Yeah, I wouldn't put that as the first bullet on my coaching resume. The reason we are hiring a new coach is because ND has so underperformed that some would say that they sucked too. Why replace one sucky coach with another?

Because the sucky coach named Butch Davis has accomplished more in college than our last 3 coaches did combined.

If Davis weren't so old, I'd have him close to the top of the list for the Notre Dame job.

The first season was nothing more than holdovers from Bunting's failed years.

If you look at his team over the past 2 seasons they're most impactful players are Davis' recruits and they are only going to get better.

I'm panicking.... Davis doesn't sound so bad. If there's no Stoops, Meyer, Patterson... or any of the other fantasy football choices.

I think that there is a thread but on it but I would say it would be a b- hire . Not the end of the world but I would not go out and party either. I would say below Tubberville and above Dick F.

Yeah, I've heard his name mentioned too. I dunno, its hard for me to take the idea of a Miami Hurricane coaching ND. You couldn't ask for more culture-clash, at least, from the days he was coaching Miami.

57-58 I think. He can recruit , he is a good coach.

I think Davis could be a good hire. He rebuilt a Miami program that was on major sanctions and he basically won a NC there(I know it was Coker but those were Davis' players). His defenses are fast and athletic and he is going to put quite a few of his guys in the NFL. He has NFL HC experience so he he has contacts in the league which kids like because that can help them get to the NFL. Now, this part not 100% on, but I believe that UNC runs a pro style offense so there wouldn't be a huge scheme change that the kids would have to learn and adjust to.
Now if Davis wants to become one of the truly elite coach's in college football he is probably going to need to add a National Title to his resume, does he see that being more realistic at UNC or ND?

No!! ND should be looking at coaches who are recruiting in the top ten year after year, take a look at their records, and the strength of thier defense, and then hand the coach an empty check...Butch Davis is not the guy for us...

He seems to have trouble getting bigs names on offense which flock to ND. He DOES get pretty good defensive players plus I think he'll get Martin back plus much much more.

as a long time bears fan, if he were picked as the next head coach....i'd be worried that he'd bring john shoop on as OC.

if that did happen, i'd be pissed off.

I have a question? why is Butch Davis even a candidate? hes what, 20-17 at North carolina, yea we need a defensive minded coach but that record sticks out especially when we just fired a coach that was 35-26
