Only reason I changed my OP was because it seemed long winded even though it was genuine. I decided to get straight to the point on my initial intentions rather than write a novel of opinion. I apologize for getting it sidetracked by fueling T Town Tommy and his facts about Bama. Just trying to engage a good conversation in regards to recruiting and the double edged sword it has become. Thanks to the actual responses I've read, what I was trying to create by the topic originally to generate a decent offseason discussion.

Thanks, BGIF.

Re: the 'top tier' prospects you mentioned, I will share a theory I shared in another thread. When Kelly was hired at ND, he was tasked with having to recruit 'top tier' guys for the first time in his career. His, and the staff's, experience recruiting high 4-stars and 5 stars was minimal. As he and the staff continue to gain experience recruiting this level of athlete they will only get better. He needed to swing and miss on some guys and probably needed to gamble on others. Moving forward, they don't need to gamble as much and we probably won't experience as many defections as we've had.

Good post. Pretty close to what I was trying to say in my OP. Especially the part where after all these defections we still have a solid group of young men, and BK and staff will adjust accordingly due to the nature of the beast that has become college recruiting.

Oversigning, which has been a long discussed topic here, is not just about going over 85. It is these programs signing more than 25 in a year. It doesn't matter if you need 30 players in a cycle, you can't, according to the rules, sign more than 25, but programs do anyway. In the end they get to 85, which is legal, but when they sign over 25 (the limit) that is my problem.
