Bring On the Trojans!

A few musings as we look to 10/15:

a. I think our defense has been saving some schemes for USC. Davie mentioned the other night how we don't blitz much and how we tend to stay in "base" defense most of the time. Minter's been bend but don't break, and he's been attack downfield, depending on talent and competition, and I am hopeful he, as well as Weis, have kept a few things for the Trojans, and I think we will throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at the USC offense.

b. If I am Pete Carroll, I am struggling to find tendencies in Weis' offense, and I am concerned about the fact that I have to face Arizona then ND, while Weis has two weeks to find the weaknesses in my defense--the ones ASU and OU exposed, as well as others that a trained eye like his can find.

c. We have a coach that "gets" the USC-ND rivalry, and this team will be as hyped up as any ND team has been in the last 20 years to play a game. This is the true benchmark for whether ND is back, like the Miami game in 1988.

d. USC is ripe to be overconfident. After two challenges and responses, as well as their anointing in the press as the best college offense ever, they may believe in their own immortality. Hubris is often a tragic flaw, and I think USC is teetering here.

e. It's just flat out time for a "Notre Dame Moment."

Call me naive, call me a hopeless optimist, but I believe that we have a real chance to knock off the Trojans. We may end up losing badly, but I can't help the way I feel right now. I haven't been this jacked up for a game in a while.

A. I hope you're right. Hey Ricky Mint, call Romeo!!

B. You can't do it. Many formations, many plays run out of each. Tough to call.

C. Finally.

D. When everyone is telling you how great you are and you believe you can't be beat, it is at that point that it can happen in reality.

E. And how.
