Don Bosco had won four straight state championships and were fresh off its first national title. The Ironmen captured another state title in 2010, Shumate’s first year on the team, and grabbed their sixth straight state championship earlier this month and are in position for another national crown.
Shumate is just one of four Don Bosco seniors who have been invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl next month along with wide receiver Leonte Carroo, defensive lineman Darius Hamilton and cornerback Yuri Wright.
Wright and Shumate will both take official visits to Notre Dame this weekend.
