I was just thinking, since there are so many position battles going on, I would ask what everyone thinks were the best units we have had in the last decade so 2000-2009
Mine are -
OFFENSE
QBs-2006 (Brady Quinn, Evan Sharpley, David Wolke) I chose Brady and Evan over Jimmy and Evan because Brady had better on field results, and i think Evan was more talented than he was allowed to show.
RBs/FBs-2003 ( Julius Jones, Ryan Grant, Rashon Powers-Neal) Julius Jones for obvious reasons, Ryan Grant proved to be better than what was allowed from him, being passed on the depth chart by Walker a year later, and Powers-Neal was a great FB, just sucks in 2005 he got suspended.
WRs/TE's-2005 ( Stovall, The Shark, Rhema McKnight, Anthony Fasano, Marcus Freeman) With this group they were all just towers, you could throw it up and more than likely anyone of them could out jump the DB. Many other reasons they were great too. Hard to choose last years WRs because of the results on the field
OL- 2000 (Jordan Black, Jim Jones, Jeff Faine, Mike Gandy, John Teasdale, Kurt Vollers, Sean Mahan) I know at least 3-4 made it on NFL rosters for awhile, and Jeff Faine still is.
DEFENSE
DL-2004 (Justin Tuck, Greg Pauly, Derek Landry, Victor Abiamiri, Trevor Laws, Chris Frome) This was a tough one, never really realized how ND hasn't had a very dominant front in awhile. But with Tuck and Abiamiri, Landy, and Laws as a Freshmen, figured I couldn't go wrong
LBs-2002 (Courtney Watson, Derek Curry, Mike Goolsby, Corey Mays) Same like the DL, it was hard to choose because none have been that dominant, but all four of those guys had a pretty good year and career at ND.
DB's- 2002 (Vontez Duff, Shane Walton, Gerome Sapp, Glenn Earl) This group was the easiest to chose for the defense, they just seemed dominant, compare to anything we have had lately. The D in 2002 was ranked pretty high, with alot of it because of this group, IMO
just something i thought i would throw together because of all the postion battle stuff going on
