The landscape of college football has changed a great deal since the Rice/Mirer/McDougal days.

Even Nebraska is passing now.

Powlus could have flourished in a passing system. The same goes for Mirer. Powlus and Quinn were both four year starters, thus their numbers will be better. Quinn's attempts won't even be close to whoever held the record previously. He'll shatter every passing record there is.

Depends how one defines "best." If you are talking about the QB position in the statistical sense, then you have to be looking at Quinn and thinking that if he keeps this pace he will go down as the best. In any case this sort of subjective comparison is fraught with difficulties. Quinn is no doubt benefitting from the Robot Genius's offensive system and his supernatural guidance. Would Mirer have enjoyed similar success in this system. We'll never know. ND has had a lot of great QBs, but barring injury, by the time Quinn is done he will own the record book and maybe an NC to boot. Then you can ask the question.

Not a bad post for a "waterboy" :) Quinn is benefitting as Huarte did under Ara and as Holiday did NOT under Ty. We have to wait a little while before we crown Quinn. At Notre Dame, success is defined by wins and National Championship, not by stats.
