putting an ultimatum on a situation like that serves no good to the program, even if he doesnt interview there's still that awkward after taste. although i'd like to see it drag out for as long as possible just to see BC squirm

How do you possibly justify that action? He really has no choice but to leave now regardless. No win situation. What a message that sends to future coaches and recruits.

I agree that this is completely ludicrous. What an ego the President of Boston College must have? Why in the hell would any coach prefer to be at Boston College rather than being a head coach in the pros, especially for an organization on the rise like the Jets? I agree that this sends a terrible message to future coaches and players. I can understand if this were Texas or Oklahoma (or maybe even ND), but we are talking about Boston fricking College. Not exactly a football powerhouse. He has been a great coach for the past 2 seasons and deserves better than this. Oh well, I wish him luck and, if the Jets don't want him, maybe we can bring him onto our staff.

How does Jagodzinski justify signing a contract to coach "x" number of years at BC, then go out interviewing for other jobs?

One of the things that we have to consider, is that we, nor the media, know squat about what may, or may not, have been discussed in private, between Jagodzinski and the BC administration. Perhaps this is a case where he has lied on many other previous occassions, about other things, and the administration is just fed up with him. I don't know that he has, but I don't know that he hasn't, either.

I bet now he's wishing he put in the ever popular "Jets Clause" into his contract.

I don't think what was said or wasn't said in private matters, because whatever reply that BC made would of most definately been made public, especially if it was something negative. I can understand if he was going to interview at another school of the same caliber as BC, but the Jets is most definately a huge step up and you can't forbid an employee for wanting to get to the top, it just looks bad all around.

Now here's to Jeff Jagodzinkski interviewing and not getting the job, because not only is he an experienced offensive coordinator, but he's also has been a offensive line coach in college and the pros. This is guy that would make ND a better team, besides if you can't beat them, then have them join you.

OK charlie there has to be some BC recruits we can steal away. :)

thats exactly what i am thinking....custis would be a good get a d-end, a position we are lacking on in this class right now.

PADOMERNUT Who is Jadkowski?

yeah, i actually think i was thinking about the former Toledo QB who took over the browns starting position like the last two weeks. Gradkowski i think? Anyways, I knew it started with a J and ended with a ski.

Ok, fine, but they went to the media with that. If you want to tell your employees, don't do X or your fired, thats one thing, but you don't go out and publicize it. Thats classless.

Plus,if "THEY" want to fire him all they have to do is buy him out. Which, the last time I checked, worked both ways. Ask RR at Michigan. He leaves BC, he or the JETS buy out his contract.

According to ESPN just now Jaworski :) did interview with the Jets and it is looking like he is out at BC. (6:57 left coast time).

ESPN sure has some funny commercials.

I love the deer pun. That is great. In my mind the HC at BC is a none issue. I believe they had a couple good years with Ryan and they were on the down swing anyhow. The fact of the matter is if we could have put up any offense in the game we very well might of won. Not to make excuses but it was pouring that evening and Jimmy woke up that morning with a brain tumor and forgot what colors we wore. If I recall he made some pretty nice throws if only we had been wearing red. Gold hemets, just a little red stripe, honest mistake.

We will own them next year regardless of who thier coach is. Not to mention that why the hell would they care if he interviewed, I have never heard of a coach being fired for that.

He's as good as gone. At first I thought that BC was crazy for doing this. Then I just read the article on ESPN, and there's a lot more to it than I thought. Here's the link:

Sources: Boston College Eagles to fire Jeff Jagodzinski after Jets talks - ESPN

A couple things here: 1: Jags took the interview without even telling the AD, which caught the AD way off-guard, and made the situation worse than it had to be. Why not be upfront with your AD, instead of the AD having to hear about it from a reporter? Sounds shady to me.

2: Jags has been putting out feelers to the NFl through his reps that he's be interested in head coaching AND off. coordinator positions. If that's the case, then guys, he has one and a half feet out the door already, and he's just waiting for a chance to bolt. He's obviouslt an NFL guy, not a college guy. And this year, with all the seniors leaving, is the perfect year for him to bolt.

Think about, he was one of 12 (!!!) candidates to interview for the Jets job, and he knew he'd be fired if he took the interview, and yet he still took it? I mean, if you had a great job that you loved, would you take an interview where you had less than a 10% chance at getting the job, even though you KNEW you'd be fired? Hell no. But Jags took the interview w/out hesitation, 'cause he wants out. And if you're BC, you're going to be doing this dance with this guy every year until he finally gets an NFL job, so why not cut him loose?

He proved to be a hellava college coach for the minute he was there, but he wants to be in the NFL. Doesn't look so bad from BC's point of view anymore IMO. Hurts recruiting bigtime because of the timing, but they would have lost him anyway one day or another...

Some additional points on Jagodzinski's situation:

Gene DiFillipo, the AD, went out on a limb to hire Jags, who was not a popular choice to replace Tom O'Brien. When he convinced the powers that be to hire him, he did so with a proviso (oral, not written agreement) that he would not "look around" for at least three years.

Reports out of Chestnut Hill indicate that not only did Jagodzinski not like to recruit, but he was a "lazy recruiter" when he did (Sound vaguely familiar?).

Most of the squad that produced the winning record over the past 2 years were O'Brien recruits (O'Brien is anything but dynamic, but when he left for NC State; he brought several members of his staff with him, including their best recruiter. His staff had been voted one of the best in finding "hidden gems" for BC). He saw the handwriting on the wall and knew that they are probably in for some lean seasons because recruiting last year was disappointing and is not going any better this year. For example, the best player in MA, Brent Williams played in the US Army All-American bowl. It was clear that, while he indicated an "interest" in BC, he was not really considering the Eagles).

When recruits visit the campus its clear that BC's facilities are "equivalent to that of most Texas high school."

Jagodzinski was looking around even before their disappointing performance against Vanderbilt. He knew that he had little or no chance to get the Jets job. However, he has connections with several NFL coaching staffs and knew that, with all the coaching changes he would get his name "out there" as a potential candidate. His NFL background and his record (which surely will never be as good as it has been over these first two years) would make him an attractive candidate.

WEEI sports talk radio, the flagship station for BC sports is reporting that BC has called a press conference for 3P to announce that Jeff Jagodinksi has been fired as the head coach at BC. There are two inhouse candidates - DC Frank Spaziani and Assistant Head Coach Jack Bicknell Jr. But BC may interview outside candidates. With the recruiting season winding down to L.O.I. Day, there is anm indication that they will (must) move quickly.

They are also reporting that fired Jets coach Eric Mangini will be the next coach of the Cleveland Browns.
