Notre Dame finally got a measure of revenge against Boston College in football.

Well sort of.

Barry Gallup Jr., the son of BC's assistant athletic director/football operations and one of the school's legendary sports figures, verbally committed to ND and Irish coach Charlie Weis on April 8.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound wide receiver is a junior at Belmont Hill High School in Wellesley, Mass. He is the second commitment in a recruiting class that includes running back Munir Prince, out of St. Louis.

"This is a great sign for Notre Dame's recruiting," said recruiting analyst Tom Lemming of the Prep Football Report. "There has been a buzz the past few months that something special is happening at Notre Dame, and this only adds to it."

Gallup, who rushed for 1,700 yards and had 500 more in receptions, chose the Irish over Boston College and Wisconsin. He had 24 touchdowns and six interceptions.

"He's smart enough to go to Harvard and fast enough (4.45 40 time) to play for anyone," Lemming said. "Charlie (Weis) saw him on film, fell in love with him and offered him right away."

anyone got a link to more info on this kid?

thanks

did Prince have any influence on him?

Gallup ran for 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns and also received for 500 yards and eight touchdowns, he added six interceptions on defense. The wide receiver prospect was named first team all-league and all-New England.

He also said he and his family are very faithful, and he would never back out of a committment. So we don't have to worry about this guy pulling a Brandon Harrison....

Seems like Hoskins was our first commit last year, sometime in July, I think.

And Chow has left USC for the Titans.

Yikes! If your next question was for 2003, here's your answer.

Looking back, how many committments did we have this time last year?

This time last year we had zero commits. We didn't have 2 commits till the end of August, Brandon Harrison and David Bruton. Brandon decommitted after Ty was fired....

Offering early to juniors = success.

The last regime were not pro active recruiters. Weis and his guys have put a premium on it.

WE'RE BACK.
