Armond Armstead considering a transfer from USC | CollegeFootballTalk

Armstead mentioned Notre Dame, Arkansas and Auburn as transfer possibilities, and could be visiting those institutions at some point in the future.

I dont know about you, but I found this very surprising for alot of reasons. First off, I dont think there's ever been a player who played four years at USC only to come to ND his last year. In fact, I cant think of the last time there was a senior transfer to ND. Secondly, keep this in mind. Because of the Jeremiah Masoli fiasco at Ole Miss, SEC teams cant accept 5th year senior transfers. He mentioned Auburn and Arkansas as potential transfer locations, but they cant accept him to play football for them.

Also, if he comes to ND (if he's cleared to play), you have to wonder what his role will be. He started his junior year at USC, and produced some good numbers: 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. As of right now, we are losing Ethan Johnson to graduation. That leaves a starting position open. Now, Tuitt and Lynch played well filing in for Johnson and playing a role in the rotation, considering that they were only true freshman. Can we arguably tell Tuitt or Lynch to take a backseat or limit what they expect for a year if Armstead proves that he can be a vital contributor to our defense? Thats up for you to decide.

You also have to look at this from a recruiting standpoint. Our DL is already pretty deep, do we add even more depth to it? I dont care, but some underclassmen could take this the wrong way, but I seriously doubt that. Also, Armond is Arik Armstead's older brother. Now, Arik is supposed to enroll early, and has about one week left to decide where he wants to go. The addition of the older Armstead could drastically improve our chances of landing the younger Armstead.

Anyways, whats your thoughts of this developing Armond Armstead situation?
